It's about time for Harbour Lights to complete the unofficial "Cape Cod Series" by providing us New Englanders with a replica of the Race Point Light in Provincetown, Massachusetts. It could also be made available to other HL collectors throughout the country. I'm sure the HL Dealers on the Cape would stock massive quantities!

To "Complete the unofficial Cape Cod Series", Harbour Lights would have to put out:

1. Race Point, Provincetown
2. Wood End, Provincetown
3. Long Point Light, Provincetown
4. The Three Sisters, Nauset Beach
5. Beach Point Light(Sandy Neck), Barnstable
6. Point Gammon, West Yarmouth (Privately owned now)
7. Monomoy Point
8. Mayo Beach Light, Wellfleet (1838) (only keepers house remains)
9. Wing Neck, Bourne (1849)(privately owned)
10. South Hyannis, Hyannisport (1849) (privately owned)
11. Bass River, West Dennis (1855) Privately owned over 50 years - now the Lighthouse Inn

12. Stage Harbor, Chatham (1880) now a private residence

This does not include lights yet to be made on Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and the Elizabeth Islands. Some argue that The Cape encompasses more than just the 'arm and shoulder' of land, but also the Cape Cod Bay 'inside the arm' and Buzzards Bay 'below the armpit' which brings in many more lights yet to be made.

Still others on the Cape & Islands are long gone and could qualify for the "GLOP" series.

My source and an excellent book on all the Historic Cape Cod lights is "America's Landfall; the historic lights of Cape Cod, Nantucket & Martha's Vineyard" by Donald W. Davidson. 1996 The Peninsula Press, Cape Cod. ISBN 1-883684-09-9 (Available from Lighthouse Depot and other fine stores).

As Bill Younger said at a recent Long Island,NY signing, when asked when he would do more LI lighthouses. "How do you think the Michigan LH collectors feel with 116?"( My Recollection) I'm sure he was exact to the amount of LHs in the Michigan Region. I guess his point was: so many lighthouses, so little time.

I would also like to see Race Point made, it is the end of the Cape.

Gee, John, I live here and didn't know about all those! Maybe I should rephrase my message and make it the "Official Cape Cod Lights That Bob Passes In His Boat" series. People have different views as to where Cape Cod begins and ends. Some feel it's the Cape Cod Canal. Some think Wareham is the "Gateway to Cape Cod". My personal definition of Cape Cod is everything on the other side of the canal and the surrounding islands. I do hope Race Point will be considered though. It is to Cape Cod what Key West is to the Florida Keys...Land's End.

I figured you didn't really mean one more would finish out all the Cape Cod lights, but when I went to the book to see what was left to do, I was amazed at how many HL has not done!

America has about 460 lighthouses still standing - I'd say Harbour Lights has enough material to keep them going for a while yet.

I think the 3 Sisters would be a great piece. They've done a great job restoring them and they have quite an interesting story.

It would be nice if Race Point, Wood End, and Long Point (all 3 Provincetown Lights) could be done together as a series with matching numbers, or the first of an "interlocking" base series that allows the 3 sculptures to be placed side by side by side connected together as one large base. (maybe not "interlocking", but at least appearing to "match" each other in connection)

3 Sisters would also be a nice edition, especially if it had a wide base with all 3 lights and alot of trees. Maybe the "Fall" colored trees as suggested in other threads.

Rod, I like your idea about the three Provincetown Lighthouses. It would make a great set, especially for us who live in the area.

If the Three Sisters were to be done, I'd rather see them at they were originally along the coast rather than in the open field in the woods. If I recall most of the trees that surround them are oaks which are not very colorful to use as a background, even in the fall. (Unless they do a tree switch like they did for Old Field.)

That's the word from the East Coast (home of Cape Cod!).

I think this is a Wonderful Idea!!! Cape Cod and all it's lighthouses hold a special place in my heart. I hope it happens!

Isn't Long Point the light at the tail of the Cape not Race Point?

Some time ago, I believe when I was in the process of "choosing a light for HL to produce" I asked Kim if they could make the Three Sisters of Nauset as they originally stood, along with the keepers house and she said they couln't. Well they probably could make anything, maybe it would have just been too expensive a piece. Thought the first HL with 3 lights would have been neat. That's why I had it on my list of possibles.

Don't forget Billings gate shoal and 3different Chathams even just Chatham w/the house right and 2 towers.Bill O'Brien

"Wareham", the "Gateway to Cape Cod"...If they come a little further north (about 40 miles), my hometown could be the "Gateway to Cape Cod". You're right, until you cross over the canal you are not on the real Cape Cod.
