Though similar to Point Fermin, it has a very unique fog signal building. It is not accessible to the public as of yet, but tours are available on certain weekends. A lot of work is being done to refurbish this light. One day I would like to see it on a WACKO pin.

San Luis Obispo would be a great Wacko pin. I have tried three times to take a boat from Avila Beach out to photograph this light but it was too windy and choppy. I hope to make the hike some day. I hear it is about 9 miles each way. I'll have to wait until my health improves more but I plan to do a three day trip and see Anacapa Island, And if I can arrange it, Point Conception.

That truly would be a great trip! I have been to Anacapa via Island Packers boat tours out of Ventura. At times the wind can come up and they cancel their excursions, so if you live out of the area give them a call first or have a backup plan. The road to the SLO lighthouse is just a little over 3 miles. Tours are available on the third Saturday of each month. Plans are under way to put a fence along the road to make this accessible by car. I don't know the current status, but I know they were hoping for early next year. I don't know the number to the lighthouse keepers but the SLO Chamber of Commerce is (805) 781-2777.

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear its only a three mile trip. I may be able to make that. Could a person mountain bike into the light house?
