Yesterday I was on the internet checking out some of the websites of stores where I purchase HL's. I saw that the Cape Hatteras and Boston Harbor GLOW's were only $24.50 and $27 respectively. Naturally, I jumped on those prices. Well it turns out they were incorrect. After checking for a couple of hours, I received a call back and was told that the prices listed were wrong but would be honored. I felt bad since it was a mistake and said, no I would not take the pieces and it was an honest mistake. I had hoped that maybe it was a special internet sale. Well, the store being as good and loyal to customers as they are, insisted that I purchase them at that price. Can you believe it!
I'm really glad for me, but I feel rather guilty, especially since the shipping is free too. Maybe I'm being rewarded for some unremembered good deed from the past.

Joanne, guess HL people are all good folks, whether they're collectors or sellers.

That's cool Joanne, reminds me of the Hillsboro I found marked for $68.00. I told the lady she had the wrong price on it and showed her that retail was $125, But she let me have it for the $68.

Mombo's right, HL people are good folks. Glad to hear there are still people that will tell a retailer if they made a mistake. What great friends we have here on the forum! Dale

I bet you'll be checking their web site often. Let us know if the SoL goes for those kind of prices and maybe they'll sell out before you know it! Bob

JoAnne,
I wouldn't worry about the mistake. Believe me after spending a number of years in retailing, they wouldn't have suggested it if there wasn't some way to make up the loss on that. And it is nice to hear of a retailer going that far to please a customer. It maybe shows that customer service is back in popularity again.

I agree that the gesture was very generous, but may not have been a loss for the retailer. The mark-up on many collectibles is around 80-100%, which permits some degree of discretionary pricing. Selling at half price certainly eliminates much of the margin, but doesn't automatically create a loss. Having said that, and also having a few years of business ownership in the background, margin is not profit. It's the pesky little things like electricity, salaries, rent, and taxes that can take a series of low-margin, but profitable transactions and turn them, as a whole, into a business loss.
