What do you expect Pharologst. You just moved to the "Funiture Capital of the World" I used to know people who would go to High Point or Thomasville, and buy truck loads of funiture for next to nothing and then drive it down to Georgia, Alabama, or Florida and sell it at flea markets. They said you could sell it for 2 or 3 times what you bought it for, and the people buying it would think they were getting a deal. Also Hello Gail, I see you survived your exposure to the Tampa HL Club. We hope you can join us again.

I used to live in SC before and would drive up to NC for furniture. But the big surprise on the Philip Reinisch case price is that they are made in Illinois and shipped to NC. My price in FL for this same case came to $799+ $100tax/shipping for a total of $900. Here in NC I saved 33%!!!!! My wife just bought me a Howard Miller display case. She said I should not expect any gifts for any occassions for the rest of the year.
It's almost full. I'm waiting to finish because I was shorted 4 shelf supports and one broke.
I could use another one already, but no place to put it.

That's the same curio cabinet I bought a few months ago. Except I planned ahead and purchased two. The sliding door is really wonderful and allows much easier and safer access to the HL's. It actually has 7 glass shelves and the bottom wooden floor so there are eight shelves.

So how many does yours hold, Joan? How about the glass shelves and the weight they can take. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Anybody else with feedback or a NE purchase? What a deal at $599 and setup!

If you plan on using all 7 glass shelves and the bottom for the 8th, one has to plan nahead and keep tall HL's together and short ones together as well. I've elected to use only 6 glass right now as it allows me to group all my FL houses together. It can easily hold 7 per shelf and one could squeeze in 10-11, but they would be crowded on top of each other. I'm really pleased with the case and its quality and that's a good reccomendation coming from a custom furniture maker! [This message has been edited by pharologst (edited 03-07-2001).]

The door only slides in one direction - right to left if you're facing it. It only opens about 2/3 the way because if it opened more, it would tip. What's nice about it is it has the holes predrilled going all the way down spaced about 2" apart so you can measure and put your shelves spaced as you choose. I have most of my shelves spaced at about 7 to 8" with one at 10" for Hillsboro. Since I have two cabinets, I spaced both differently. The glass is a good thickness and the tabs that hold it in place are metal not plastic. I have about seven large pieces and easily ten of the smaller ones per shelf. The very heavy ones I have on the bottom wooden floor of the cabinet.
Since the doors only slide in one direction, I put both cabinets on one wall with the cabinet on the right one inch further from the wall than the cabinet on the left it's door just slides past the cabinet next to it.
I ordered them from a furniture dealer in North Carolina, shipping and put together, for about $1300 for two. Unfortunately, I heard that dealer isn't selling Reinisch any longer. I think Pulaski makes one that is very similar.

I now have all 7 shelves in place, yielding 8 levels counting the floor of the case. Two items need to be considered though, 1) grouping the tallest Lights together on the one high shelf, and putting one shelf at the mid-height(with the horizontal case-brace running across the back) to support the mighty Navesink . The glass is OK, but Navesink together with 4-5 others deflects the glass a bit too much without the support of the caseback. If I was really going to load a shelf up, I'd consider substituting thicker glass for that shelf. In my older case, I had the abiity to add extra shelf supports on the front and back at midpoints, but not able to do so here due to the mirror back and the sliding front door. All in all still a great display case! [This message has been edited by pharologst (edited 03-08-2001).]

What kind of lighting does this case have? Top only or can lighthing be added along the back since there are so many shelves? I know that I have problems with lighting a 4 shelf cabinet.

The case comes with a single halogen light in the top of the case. By the time you get to shelf #7 all loaded with 'lights', there isn't much light left to go around. Since I'm also an avid woodworker I'm going to add two more at the top, and track lighting from outside to shine in on the lower case. In the daytime, no auxiliary lighting is needed, since the case is so open with glass. [This message has been edited by pharologst (edited 03-09-2001).]
