I'm looking for ideas on how to store the paperwork that comes with all HLs. I don't really want to keep them with the boxes but I do want them handy and organized. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ed... I have purchased plastic 3 1/2" x 5" horizontal photo pages. They fit standard 3-ring binders and hold the paperwork very nicely. The main section holds the light description (I fold this outward for easy reading through the plastic) and the small pocket to the right of the main pocket holds the tent card. The particular brand I purchased is by Avery, part number PP35H-10. They come 10 to a pack, and are available from just about any office supply store. Most importantly... they are archival safe, acid free, and fit very nicely in a Harbour Lights binder! Tim - Keeping the flame lit... Ed, I do something very similar to Tim except the sheets are from 20th Century Plastics. It holds the paperwork nicely. I agree with you. I do not want to keep the paperwork in the box. Good Luck Tim H [This message has been edited by Tim H (edited 08-13-2000).]

Hi Ed. I put all the paperwork from each light into a legal size envelope, write the name of the light on the front (at the top) and put them in alphabetical order in a photo box. Easy to find and if I have more than one of any light, I just add the edition number on the front also. I just had to go to my second photo box, but I think each will hold over 100 envelopes. I currently keep a scrapbook of each lighthouse I have in a photo album. On the left I have created a Word document which shows a picture of the actual light and the HL and the specifics such as when/where purchased, edition size and serial number. On the right I keep the COA, tent card and any other cards/special items that come with it. I have also started to printand include the pages out of the National Maritime Initiative Inventory of Historic Light Stations websites for each lighthouse so that I have all of the specific info available at my fingertips.

Here's my old solution. It's a photo album for 4x6" prints. If you find the RIGHT album, they will handle the certificates. But take a certificate with you to the store. Most are a shade to narrow to handle the CAs. I place a photo of the HL next to the CA. I keep them in HL product number order. I wouldn't want to put them in Geographic or Alpha order since I'd have to move them around every time a new one came out. 0 :>) [This message has been edited by JChidester (edited 08-14-2000).]

That is a pretty neat idea, John. I like that. I have thought of doing something similar, but as of yet have been storing my paperwork and boxes together.
