Since JJ rightly closed Part One of this topic, I thought I would re-post my final post of part one and ask Daniel to re-post his numbers of the thumbnails..

Here's how the 25 thumbnails are displayed at the Midwest Harbour Lights Museum except of course not against the clouds normally...

Thumbnails own the top shelf while their bigger brother and sister Spyglass Lighthouses have the two lower shelves of their display cabinet..

Paul, That is a great way to display the thumbnails and spyglass items. I currently use them as "filler" between the LEs, but they seemed to be lost. Your way makes them stand out so one can appreciate the work that went into making something so small with the detail HL provides.

What are the dimensions on the case?

Thanks for sharing the picture!

This is a great way to get both the thumbnails and Spyglass series in one case. My thimble dome displays only the thumbnails (pretty cool, I think), but I need something for the Spyglass lights.

Mel, I still have my spyglass lights displayed as "fillers". The case Paul posted looks like one in the Lighthouse Depot catalog but it must be smaller. The one in the catalog is used for the LLOM lights.

Yea!! It's official, my thumbnail collection is complete! Thanks to a heads up from Rich, I tracked them on ebay and placed winning bids on both the Cape Hatteras and Sandy Hook - both of which had eluded me on ebay and both of which sold for a whole lot more the previous times I tried. I can't wait for them to arrive. As soon as they have taken their place in the dome, I will take a picture and post it. cool

Thanks to a very nice "gift fairy" we have now joined the "thumbnail owners"! smile
So I thought I'd resurect this thread and share our idea about displaying them.

We had thought about a very small set of shelves similar to the ones Stan made for the LLOMs. But that was going to be a fiddely job.

And then we had a "brain wave" and searched for and found a display cabinet for thimbles (three cheers for eBay).

Here is the result:

I especially like the idea of these little treasures being behind glass. (there is a glass door on the cabinet, but we opened it for the picture) Little dust and little danger of them being knocked off - can't be bad!!!

Margret,

Your display looks great. I hadn't thought about using a thimble display case.

Margret,

Your "thimble" display looks great. I intend to try to find one. I never thought of it.

Paul,

Your display case looks stunning. Where did you locate it?

What a great idea. I think, however I need to get a few more thumbnails. One would look pretty lonely in there. laugh

Margret, that is a super idea! They look beautiful. I promised over a year ago that I would post a picture of my dome. I will do that shortly. It's great to exchange ideas like this. We all end up doing our own thing, but it starts with inspiration from our friends on the forums. JC started the ball rolling for me when he posted his picture after the Michigan reunion - a shadowbox he purchased at Michael's. wink

Yes, I remember that shadow box. We went to California just after and Sue was working for Micheals at the time.
Looking forward to seeing your display!

I updated the thumbnail information with much firmer numbers and the actual name that Harbour Lights lists each thumbnail in their product list..
