What is the best way to handle "microchips" on HLs? Leave them alone? Color them in? If so, with what?
I'm sure there are many people with microchips on some of their pieces. What do you suggest?

If you go to any art store, they sell things called touch up markers. I use them at work to touch up chips that occur on our ceramic animals at the store. In fact, the animal companies send them to us with our orders. They lovingly call them "grooming kits". They work really well on the animals, and I have borrowed them to touch up a small chip on my Castle Hill as well. It worked perfectly. They don't dry instantly so you can blend two colors together to match a shade. Hope this information helps!

Thanks Sara! I'll check that out at the local Art Supply store.

Hey Bob,

I thought you were suggesting micro chips to be embedded in the piece itself for tracking and identification in case of theft.
Oh well! Back to the shotgun and three big dogs

Oops! You're right, Fred! I didn't even think about double meanings. Maybe I should have phrased it as "what do you do to cover up an occasional snow flake that mysteriously appears on your HLs from time to time." (Note: this can even happen to the pieces from the warmer climates!)
I think Sara has the right idea. Maybe you may add a suggestion too?

Bob, I think I remember reading somewhere that touch up paints are available from Harbour Lights. But IMHO, such tiny chips should be simply left alone if they do not detract from the piece visually. As a buyer, I'd probably prefer tiny white spots to what might appear to be an attempt to cover up what might be far greater damage. I know this logic applies to antiques, rare coins, etc. and is reflected in the prices in those markets. YMMV with HLs, however.

Hi Art, You are right. I think I'll just leave them alone. They are exceptionally small and only on a couple of my HLs.

I guess one lesson to be learned is..."When you buy your next Harbour Lights check it over thoroughly for any spots that have been touched up." I wouldn't purchase a car that had been touched up either.
