OK, I know some of you folks have done this, so I'm looking for any wisdom you would care to share.
College of the Redwoods (where I work) has asked me if I would care to display my collection at the campus library. I have checked the display case which is inside the entrance to the library. The case measures 12-1/2 feet long, 10 feet high, 3 feet deep. It has halogen lighting and the overhangs of the building would prevent direct sunlight. I told them I would want three new shelves with bracing every three feet and a new lock put on the case that I would have the only key to (other than the campus locksmith).
I've checked my CIA insurance policy and made sure they are covered. I've written to HL for any literature that could be handed out and possibly a banner to put over the top since the case is so high (wouldn't want anything displayed above five feet high anyway).
They would be there from Jan 17 - Feb 29.
What am I forgetting? Have already boxed up and taken 20 to my office in preparation for setting it up next weekend. Thanks for any advice.
Rich

Sounds like you got some questions answered - the insurance coverage, lock, sun-damage. The display case seems quite large -- 3' deep
Personally I wouldn't display the most valuable ones you have, although the average viewer wouldn't know the St. Augustine is 4-5 times more valuable than Cape Meares.
You can purchase clear lucite 'steps' to display the pieces some higher, some lower on each shelf. Paul Brady uses those on his displays with much success.
If it happens, Rich - please do send photos both to Harbour Lights and to me.

Thanks John. I may have led you astray with the three feet deep. The case actually has sliding glass doors on it. You can actually step inside to place the lighthouses on glass shelves that are about 18" to 24" deep. I like the lucite "step" idea, but what kind of store do you go to to buy them?

The lucite steps sound good for home too as some of the HL's are pretty short. As long as you have a sturdy base.

The Lucite squares can be found at The Container Store in the Atlanta area. They are a national chain so maybe they are in your area. If not let me know what you need and I'll get them and send them to you. Good Luck on the display.
Rich, too.

There must be somebody who's selling these on the Internet.

Lucite steps? That sounds like a great idea! The top shelf in my curios have ample room for just such a thing. Perhaps in the corners, but not in the middle for fear of putting an HL too close to the halogen light. Am I correct in assuming the heat from the halogen light is not good for the HL? Bob

They come from the planet Lucite.
I know a couple of dealers that sell them locally, but they can be expensive that way. The best way would be to find a company that sells both wholesale to dealers and retail to consumers.
Look in your yellow pages under plastics, they may not be able to sell to you or make what you are looking for but they may be able to direct you to the right people.

Ha! Fooled you all. Had the space shuttle stop at Planet Lucite and bring me back several. Actually, I stopped by my regular dealer and she has loaned me about twenty. Thanks for the suggestion John, and all that weird help to several others. Rich ------------------
