I just finished a book about the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane on the upper Florida Keys...some incredible descriptions in it about what happened to Alligator Reef Light when a Category 5 hurricane blew through...not to mention what happened to many WW1 vets who were left stranded in tents...now I want to go back to Key West and find a tour...

The vets were flooded out of their homes or were they at some kind of facility?

They were moved down there to help Henry Flagler build his Florida East Coast Railway and put up in temporary shelters/camps built on the vulnerable, low lying Keys...a rescue train sent to retrieve them showed up way too late...
