Hello, not certain where to put this question as I am new to the website. Perhaps someone can help with this dilemma. I went to list my Alcatraz Lighthouse on eBay and I see that all of the others listed are either #417 or #177. Mine is #407 but on my Harbour Lights Product history guide #407 is shown as Holland, MI. I purchased my lighthouse from Bayside Treasures in Toledo in 1996. Was this an error by Harbour Lights? How can it be explained? I am not certain how to list it for sale now. Thanks to whoever can help!

If you have a Limited Edition the part number will be either HL177 or HL407.

If you have the Open Edition GLOW then your part number will be HL417.

It sounds like you have the Limited Edition HL407 that was changed to HL177 during the second production run. So, advertise it as a Limited Edition HL407 and it should have an "A" in front of the serial number.

To add confusion to all of the above (or maybe it will clear things up), please read the following:

Open/Limited Editions HL405/HL175 Cape Lookout, HL406/HL176 Fire Island, HL407/HL177 Alcatraz, HL410/HL182 Spectacle Reef, HL411/HL183 St. Joseph’s North Pier, HL414/HL184 Thirty Mile Point and HL417/ HL178 Mukilteo originally were produced as Open Editions using the HL”400” Open Edition series numbers shown above with an “A” prefix serial number. An outcry from collectors stating these lighthouses had never been produced first as a Limited Edition caused Harbour Lights to discontinue the Open Edition HL “400” series numbers and reassign regular Limited Edition HL”100” series numbers shown above to indicate a Limited Edition. The serial numbers continued in sequence minus the “A” prefix. Harbour Lights decided, due to the collector’s outcry, that an Open Edition lighthouse would never again be produced until a Limited Edition of the same lighthouse was produced and retired.

The discontinued HL”400” series numbers used on the above pieces were then reissued to new Open Editions produced later on. The reused numbers were assigned to Open Editions HL405 Montauk, HL406 New London Ledge, HL407 Holland (Big Red), HL410 Cape Neddick (Nubble), HL411 St. Augustine, HL414 Barnegat and HL417 Alcatraz. Of the original 7 lighthouses mentioned in the first paragraph, 4 were then also produced as Open Editions when the Limited Editions retired. The numbers assigned to the Open Edition versions were HL417 Alcatraz, mentioned previously, HL434 St. Joseph’s North Pier, HL441 Cape Lookout and HL448 Fire Island. The 3 retired Limited Editions never produced as Open Editions were HL178 Mukilteo, HL182 Spectacle Reef and HL184 Thirty Mile Point.
