This posting is not to start a debate about where the fault of the government shutdown lies....

This story posted in today's (10/8) Daily Press (Hampton, VA)
Shutdown cancels reopening of Assateague Lighthouse, How sad that folks did not have the opportunity to view the restoration efforts made.

While many hope that the federal government can reverse the shutdown, at least one beacon has been extinguished.

The 146-year-old Assateague Lighthouse was supposed to have a grand reopening last Saturday after a $1.5 million renovation. The ceremony is just one of the casualties of the government shutdown. Assateague Island National Seashore and Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge are also closed.

Additional impacts to the area posted in delmarvanow.com

It will get re-opened eventually, hopefully. It would be nice to see the completed product. Very nice location for the light, and a great view. On the way to the 2001 Baltimore reunion a group of us were able to climb the light. Part of another great adventure.
