We were up in Wells, Maine last week and the Lighthouse Depot is closed. I would assume that Harbour Lights and the Lighthouse Depot went down together.

Dealers still haven't received any word from the company. Sure it will be a shock to some of the smaller dealers when they try to contact HL and get nothing.

I can understand what has happened and the company folding up their tents. What isn't at all understandable is their not having the courtesy to send their dealers a notice that they were out of business.

I'm especially sad to see the HarbourLights.com website go down. I was hired by Kim Andrews to set up the official website for Harbour Lights in 1998.

I had been running a 'fan-site' under LighthouseKeepers.com (this domain) for about 2 years. The Harbour Lights company had the foresight to reserve the domain name well in advance (before 1996). Kim approached me and asked me to convert my 'fan-site' to be the official website for Harbour Lights.

My responsibilities were to design the site and provide as much detailed content as possible. I was blessed to have Paul Brady who volunteered to lend his photography skills with the result that the Harbour Lights collectibe line from beginning to end was photographed by ONE PERSON. That may be unique among all the collectible lines in the world.

My tenure as webmaster lasted from 1998 through 2005 plus a few more years after Don Devine's purchase of the company. I enjoyed a great relationship with Bill and Kim (and with Maureen Atwell). I also enjoyed several benefits as well as a steady income from my job.

Thanks to the Younger Family; thanks to Don Devine and to Paul Brady --- and to all the collectors over the years.

I had a chance to talk briefly with Don Devine today and we talked about the Official Collectors Guide. The initial printing order was for 5,000 books. Don's guesstimate was that over the years they sold 4,000 of them. His comment was that it was the best book on a line of collectibles -- but that they couldn't convince enough of the HL Dealers to carry the books.

The rest of the remaining books were put in a dumpster in Maine a few weeks ago.

Frankly, with the way the dealers were treated in the last few years, I'm not surprised. Would have been nice though to have received at least a "thanks and farewell" for the thousands and thousands of dollars of business we did with the company.

I have been away for awhile from this site and haven't stayed up on things for the past couple of years. I was on the Lighthouse Challenge of NJ this past weekend and heard the news...was shocked but not totally surprised.

I saw this coming for quite awhile now!

Sad....really sad!

I too have been away from the site for a while. For personal and financal reasons I haven't been able to buy any lighthouses for a couple of years, but it is so sad to see it gone.
