OK, here's some trivia for you...Anyone know what lighthouse was in "Jaws 2" (1978)? Funny how big a part this lighthouse played in the movie. You know...the lighthouse that Michael and his friends were going sailing out to until Jaws ruined their plans...and his little brother had come along...and they were stuck out in the water just hoping to get to Cable Junction for safety. I saw the end of the movie on tv last weekend, and my very funny husband says, "Look! A lighthouse! What one is it?" So, I think I know...but I figured this might be a good one for discussion.

Kristen,

Is it at least a Lighthouse that is actually in the location that Jaws took place?

Or is it like other movies or TV shows when the put East Coast lights on the West coast and vice versa?

I haven't seen the movie in many a year but if my memory serves me correctly, it appeared to be the entrance to the channel in Edgartown Harbor, therefore, was it Edgartown Light? Sometimes "movie-magic" changes things and puts objects on the landscape where they never actually existed.

Yes, the lighthouse is in the location where the movie was filmed...and no, I don't think it's Edgartown Light...but you're getting warm!

Bob,

You're kidding us, right?!? They don't really do this kind of underhanded thing, do they? How will I ever be able to believe what I see in a movie now that you have broken this terrible news?

I think you know this much already, but I'll give it to you anyway.
Clue 1: Amity Island is actually a real island in New England.
Clue 2: The movie was filmed in a small fishing village "Up Island" called Meneshma.
Clue 3: There are five possible lighthouses when you figure out what the island is.

I was about to guess Cape Poge when I saw this last post.

I did a little search and I believe Amity Island is Martha's Vineyard and I found that Meneshma is a town on Martha's Vineyard.

Along with a pond and a light listed as the Menesma Creek Entrance Jetty light.

I now think it's East Chop or Gay Head. Gay Head because it's near your hint, and East chop because it looks more like Edgartown.

Keep in mind I have not seen Jaws 2.

Dennis

Jaws AND Jaws 2 were definitely filmed on Martha's Vineyard = Amity Island.
I'm not sure why everyone thinks the lighthouse looks like Edgarton light. If I tell you what I think I saw last week, I'll tell you that it was not a white lighthouse...and that narrows it down quite a bit...to one out of 5 possibilities...unless circa 1978 one of the Martha's Vineyard lighthouses was painted a different color than it appears to be now...but the one lighthouse that isn't white is also located on the right side of the island as far as where Meneshma is. I hear that on Jaws the ride in Universal studios, they take you on a boat ride by a replica of the lighthouse...maybe I can find something on that easier than looking for something solid from the film? Still, my best guess right now would be Gay Head.

I know JAWS was filmed at the Vineyard. I thought JAWS II was filmed over on Long Island. If my memory serves me correctly, the scene where the guy rows out to check for something during the hours of darkness was filmed in the entrance to Edgartown Harbor.

Menemsha Harbor has no lighthouse other than Gay Head Light about 3 miles away up on the bluff. Menemsha is a fabulous location unchanged (basically) since I started visiting there with my boat over 30 years ago. That harbor was also used in the remake of the movie Sabrina.

Hi guys,
last year I've gone to Cape Cod & Marta's Vineyard (a romantic honeymoon, I live in Italy) and I've made lot of photos to Edgartown and its lighthouse, I am absolutely sure that is the one used in Jaws and in some scenes of Jaws 2.
In the Edgartown Harbour there is a lot of of shops, small and not, most of them with Jaws's film posters and references, like "Welcome to real Amity" or "This is Jaws's Island!", more clearly of that ?!

To support this take a look at these links:
http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=624 (last paragraph)
http://blackholereviews.blogspot.it/2011/12/jaws-filming-locations-part-1-edgartown.html (THIS can be called a Fan :D)

BUT, there is always a but..
the lighthouse in red brick that's appears mostly in Jaws 2 cannot be found by nobody in the real;
this lighthouse (where where the boys chatting bored and where they discover a killer whale killed or where Brody firstly searches the guys who are adrift in shark attack) was build by the troupe specially for shooting in Navarro Beach, in Florida, where most of other scenes of "Jaws 2" were filmed.
This information is available on IMDB:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077766/trivia?tab=tr&item=tr1525052

I hope to be helpful! (and I hope to come back to Cape Cod as soon as possible, it's a magical place) :D

I've been to Cape Cod many years ago while in the Coast Guard stationed at the Oceanographic Unit in Washington, DC. I had a 1 week TAD at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Unit learning about some special equipment the Coast Guard was going to start using. It was a beautiful area. I hope you can revisit when you get a chance.
