At the luncheon we had on Saturday 4/29/12, Bill brought along a few of his Harbour Lights. He wanted to get our reaction to an idea he is thinking about that would raise funds for a favorite charity which he and Nancy support.

It is "Operation Smile" which provides free cleft palate operations for children in the US and around the world. The cost of one operation is just $250.

It's Bill's idea that if a collector would make a donation of $250 to Operation Smile, they could redeem their donation receipt for a #1 limited edition from among Bill's collection.

He brought along a few samples including #1 St. Augustine Limited Edition, a #1 Traverse City Limited Edition, and a Paint Sample of the limited edition Pensacola FL.

At least for the first 90 days of this offer, each collector would be limited to one each from this collection which Bill estimates to include a minimum of 200 #1 or Paint Samples. After 90 days, any one could buy any number of pieces at the same rate of one each for each $250 donation to Operation Smile.

You would, of course, receive a donation receipt from Operation Smile which, depending on your tax situation, could be taken as a tax deduction.

Bill is looking for YOUR reaction to this idea. Please take a minute to indicate your interest and ideas in this fund-raising idea effort.

Bill mentioned this offer would exclude his #1 Coquille and #1 Cape Hatteras. He said he recently turned down an offer on the later of $2,500.

I would be fine with donating to Bill and Nancy's charity, but, would we be able to pick a lighthouse that we are interested in or will it be "Pot Luck"? In otherwords will a list be provided listing all the lighthouses and we get to pick a first, second and third choice?

It sounds like a fabulous idea, and I would very much like to support Operation Smile. This charity is very dear to my heart, as my own daughter was born with a cleft lip and palate 37 years ago, and I was fortunate enough to have insurance....
I'm anxious to hear the outcome of this idea.

A very creative and generous plan by Bill to not only help a favorite charity, but also give collectors a wonderful opportunity to receive one of Bill's personal stash.

An excellent and generous idea. I would be interested as well. I sort of have an idea about what light I would choose, but wondered, would a list of the items available be provided indicating which are #1's vs. paint samples? I am assuming choice would be some sort of first come...which to me would only be fair.

I've conveyed to Bill & Nancy the news through today of the interest in this charitable opportunity.

They are leaving tomorrow for England and will be returning in mid-June. At that time, we'll set up a website that includes a list of the pieces available and provides a way to select the one you want and contribute to the organization. The cost of packaging, shipping and insurance will be added.

Keep spreading the word and posting your interest on this thread. Bill thinks he has 180 pieces, half of which are #1 and the other half are oddities and paint samples. "I might even have some pieces we never made," he told me.

He and Nancy are also supporting an organization that helps blind-at-birth children see.

Yes: Put me in for Bills charity donation for one of his personal collection.

John

I do have one idea that I would like to relay to Bill. I would like to see a generic letter of authenticity that states that the piece is from Bills personal collection then have a blank area where Bill could sign it and write in the lighthouses name and HL number. I watch Pawn stars and things like this adds to the value and makes it even more special.

I put a list together of the # 1 Harbour Lights that were not sold through the founder’s collection and have a good chance of being in Bills list. ( I remove the Hatteras and Coquille as they will not be offered.

I don’t know about the rest of you but this list got me excited and I hope it will entice more to get involved. The list contains 143 lighthouses.

Lately I have been reading all the post in this thread and have not said anything regarding the offering of HL pieces, including the "No. 1's" for a $250 donation.

I am very puzzled by this most recent offering that includes the No. 1 pieces which I hope someone can clarify and "shed some light on the subject".

I thought the majority of the No. 1 pieces were purchased by William Booth of Texas (texaslighthouselover) a few years ago when the Founders Collection went originally up for bid in 2006?

The reason I ask, is because I personally own the No. 1,HL145 - Assateague, VA, which is listed under Tier 1 above and the No. 1, HL310 Mahota Pagoda, CHINA, listed under Tier 3 above.....

So is Bill Booth presenting this offer or is it Bill Younger? I'm confused. I also think the list above is NOT correct in regards to the current availability of No. 1 pieces.

In light though, I think a "paint Sample" would be neat and encourage anyone to donate to the cause being presented!

I listed the Number 1's that Bill Booth did not purchase according to the spreadsheet that HL sent to me back in 2006.
Meaning whatever is on the list above may still be available.
Obviously the list that HL provided is not accurate.
No. 1 HL145 - Assateague, VA and the No. 1, HL310 Mahota Pagoda, CHINA, were not on the list for the founder’s collection, but since you purchased them from Bill Booth they ended up as part of the package.
I know when I tried to buy some of Bill Booth’s founders collection we found out that he never received them.

I tried to delete the HL145 and HL310 from the list but it looks like I don't have the permissions to.

That's a question that John will have to answer as I don't know how long you have to edit your own post.

I am logged in.
I can edit the post I made yesterday.
But the post I did a week ago does not have the edit button and I am not able to edit it.
A matter of fact the edit button is missing on my old post in the past.

There is a time limit on how long a person other than an administrator can edit their own posts..

I believe it is a setting for each forum and the level of the editor..

Thanks Paul for clarifying this.

May I ask what is the reasoning for taking away our ownership of our post?

Call me old fashion but something just doesn’t feel right about that.

Christopher, I was surprised, too.

But think there's probably a simple answer. Perhaps when the #1-#10 collection were stored in the warehouse but some were at home with Bill. Perhaps when the collection was shipped to Don Devine, the ones Bill had were not sent by oversight -- or he decided to keep a few for himself. Again, these are just possible ways it could have happened.

Mr. Booth got what he paid for. Those 'bidding' on the list of pieces from the Founders' Collection knew which ones were available.

The offer is being made by Bill Younger, not LHD or HL.

So is Bill Booth presenting this offer or is it Bill Younger? I'm confused. I also think the list above is NOT correct in regards to the current availability of No. 1 pieces.

In light though, I think a "paint Sample" would be neat and encourage anyone to donate to the cause being presented!

Last post on editing, then back full time to discussing Bill's project. I have found the settings affecting editing posts and have tweaked it. I think all members should be able to edit all their previous posts at this point. Any further discussion, please start new thread in the forum about these forums.

Here is something to think about. Maybe, just maybe that Bill's personal collection were kept separate from the rest of the Founders collection meaning a possibility that some of the early ones are the original Made in Canada and not the Malaysian version. Remember Bill said that the original founders collection was needed to fill orders and was later replaced with the Malaysian made. It would be neat to think maybe the Number "1" version was protected from this.

Bill & Nancy will be back from Great Britain in mid-June.

It will take a while to get the list, set up some interactive web pages and get the word out. A safe guess would be about the end of June.

I don't expect we'll have photos of the individual pieces. Maybe a sample or two.
