Can you believe all those steps cut into the stone? There's not alot more to show. Here is the reveal.

Never got to this one Laura...you would think with all those carved steps you'd think they'd have saved the Tower.

It was reinforced. They built another cast iron sheath around the original cast iron tower and filled the space between with rubble. Trouble is that it only went part way up. Just above the reinforcement is where it broke in a storm. I have heard that the people, who all survived, were in the tower and also they they were in the other buildings. Either way it is amazing. The island is so small, it must have been terrifying. After this lighthouse (which I notice you have not named) was lost, they replaced the first Fastnet. This tower had received the same reinforcement,also only part way up, which they now knew was insufficient. I hope someone names it soon, I am leaving Friday to visit George with the Pixie. I am hoping the pixie dust works on the weather!

I hope the pixie dust works too! The weather out there looks cruel. I spoke to Derith last Friday. Julia's sister arrived Friday Rosa Maria so we'll be on our way there Friday.

Congratulations on the newest grandaughter!
I got an email back from St. George Reef Society that the flight is a go! just an hour ago. Now, I am sure that could change at the last minute, but for right now it looks good. We are going inside Battery Point also. I'm not certain what else Nancy and I will get to see, since we are only with the group for Saturday and Sunday, but I am excited.

Make sure you do a 360 of Battery on outside! Inside is very cool.
Good news on Flight! Fingers crossed.

I will be sure to do the 360. A friend from our Ireland trip is going with too. She and her sister take care of the fresnels at Old Point Loma. I am planning to ask her to point out any differences between Point Loma and Battery Point. Love those little West Coast Cape Cods.
We may also see the remains of Humbolt, if time allows.

Laura I will be with the Pixie at SGR. It will be nice to meet you. There are major differences in PT Loma (old) and Battery Point. The main difference is the shape and size of the lantern and supporting tower.

Actually I just had dinner with the Pixie in Ft. Bragg, CA.

Bob, happy to hear another grand child has arrived for you and Maryann. Hope you and all of your family are doing well.
