My son is graduating from Navy boot camp. I will be in the Chicago area for a week. Any ideas on things to do that may be lighthouse or non-lighthouse related. I have never been there. I've got a list going of things to do, but I would hate coming back and then wishing I had gone "there". Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Go to Navy Pier. 2 lighthouses and tons of stores and restaurants. you can park there and take a bus tour of Chicago. Getting on and off all day. Soldier Field is right next door. Also try the river tour by boat. Wrigley Field if Cubs are in town and Chicago Pizza.
I was there for two days and saw both Chicago teams and a game in Milwaukee. Also did the above.
Have fun!

The Lakes is fairly far north. Don't overlook the possibility of an easy trip up the road to Kenosha and other southern Wisconsin lights. Lighthouse Friends is good for location info. If you enjoy the history of the lights, try Seeing the Light, a very informative site by Terry Pepper. BTW, congratulations to your son. Thank him for his service. Where is he headed next, what field? Have a safe trip.

Thanks guys, I would have responded earlier but had log-in problems that now seem to have disappeared. Let me know if my research is wrong, but is Gross Pointe the only accessible one. I already have tickets for Cubs/Whitesox and stadium tours, trying to squeeze in Milwaukee. Any other suggestions please shout them out as I probably will take his car to him in the spring. Dave, he's staying there. He'll become an Electrician's Mate. I tried to steer him towards aviation, which is how I retired, but he's a stubborn kid, had to make his own decision's. Takes after his old man. LOL. Good to hear from you guys again, it's been awhile. Keep up the good work. See you at the next reunion. I'll have a job by then.
