Hey Art - just click on "my profile", then choose "View/Update Profile". Scroll down a ways and you can pick an Avatar.
If you've got a special picture you'd like to use, you can email it to Dave or I and we'll size it and upload it for you and send you a link you can enter in that area of the Profile.
For those who can handle the uploading of a photo, a reminder that your Avatar image should be scaled to 75 x 75 pixels.

So if I have a picture that I want to go with my name when I post, I can just send it to Dave who will send it back with URL info?
I don't have the picture as a URL that I want to use in my profile. It's just a picture of White Shoals I took on a trip.

A yes and no for you, Doc. Yes, I am willing to resize the image for you - just need to send the image itself. Now for the "no" part - well, its a "no" for the time being. Have to have 50 posts and graduate to the "wacko" level to be able to display an avatar. However, that can be pretty easy to do if you put your mind to it. I'm sure any number of people can chime in here and tell you how. Its been a while since I was looking to graduate to wacko.......

I think I'm not asking the right question. I just want to have a picture with my name when I post. Do I have to be a "wacko" to do that? Those pictures that are on the left side column along with the person's name who is posting... Is that what you are calling an avatar?

Yes, that is the avatar people are talking about. See how easy it is to get those 50 posts? You're one closer already. When you respond to this you will be another one closer......

Doc - you don't have to have 50 posts to have a picture in your 'signature' (like mine below). You can do that by going through the 'my profile' link above and creating a signature that includes a http link to the place where you picture is stored.
Keep your signature photo small so it doesn't take long to load.
Here's an example of how the text in the signature block would be written:
Editor {URL=http://www.harbourlights.com/guide/}The Official Collectors Guide to Harbour Lights{/URL} Webmaster@LighthouseKeepers.com {img}http://www.lighthousekeepers.com/uploads/files/chidester@membertrends.com/keeper_cu_75pixels.jpg{/img}
EXCEPT. Substitute "[" for "{" and "]" for "}"
Compare the text above with the signature block below.

It needs to be 75x75. If not, the system will resize it as it sees fit. You generally won't like those results. After you have loaded the photo to either the lighthousekeepers space or somewhere else where it can be linked and displayed, you then need to go to your profile. Select choose another avatar, which will open a window. Insert the link to where the image is, just as you would to display an image in a posting. It will display the image at the top left of the screen as I recall. Once the image you want displays, click on the choose this image button which will close that window and place the avatar in the main profile window. At the bottom of that page choose save and exit. You will probably have to completely exit from the forums site and re-enter before the avatar will display.
