This quake is a massive quake of 8.9, it is the 5th largest quake in the world, since 1900 when they started recording them.. The people of Japan and those in the path of the resulting tsunamis are going to be facing a long recovery time from the damage..

Hopefully the deaths and injuries be be held to a minimum, but it will be a while before total numbers are known because communication has been widely affected in Japan..

They have my prayers...I was up late last night (as usual) and about 11:30pm AZ time they were showing live pictures of the tsunami taking over what looked like a farming area. The pictures were unbelievable but very scary to watch. People in cars were trying to get away but there was no place to go where the water could not get to them. I'm sure many were driven into the ocean and who knows how many will ever be seen again.Very very sad.

The nuclear power plants are a real concern! Those poor people have been through so much, and for them, it is far from over, as the after shocks and tsunamis can continue for many days to come, and much longer for the aftershocks. My heart goes out to them, and for those in New Zealand!

The fragility of life is never so apparent as it is when a disaster such as this hits. We all think we have such control then WHAM!!!!, life as we know it is either gone completely or changed considerably. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Japanese people and all of those in the wake of the tsunamis. :(
