The National Park Service has opened a comment period for moving the Bodie Island life saving station that dates from 1879 and two other buildings to protect them from the encroaching ocean. NPS Proposal/Bodie Island Life Saving Station Judy I revised the link to take you directly to NPS news release page. Look at the Oct. 30 post there.

Article in this morning newspaper "Lghthouse Repair Work Ceases as Money Dries Up". Congress won't come to the rescue of the lighthouse, due to a lack of funding. It would cost an additional 1.6 million if the contractors were allowed to continue working. Language in the 2009 appropriations bill prohibits the agency from transferring money between projects. Now the scaffolding will come down and the park service will submit a request to fund the work in 2012 budget. Will cost a lot more than moving money than transferring funds. That is how our government works. Spend twice as much to do a job.
