Going on a cruise from Baltimore. I have never managed to take any good pictures of lighthouses in the upper bay on these winter cruises. Maybe this time.

We go to Port Canaveral. Hoping maybe for the Canaveral light, but my hopes are not high. Then Key West, Nassau and Coco Cay. Never been to Coco Cay.

Second part, Haiti (where we've never been), the D.R. St. Thomas, St. Martin, San Juan etc.

Russ has used some of my photos of San Andreas Island (Colombia) on his website. I'm very flattered.

Rosalie, you can see the Cape Canaveral Light from the water when you leave port. You need a good zoom lens.

Two cruise lines out of Baltimore - Royal Caribbean and Carnival. We are in Canaveral now, but we don't leave until 10 pm

We have an inside cabin but the bow camera on the TV is not working (finally found that out at the Cruise Critics meeting), so we couldn't see the sail-away, but I went up and out on the promenade deck and found we were just about ready to
go under the Key Bridge, so I went out on deck and took photos of it

and the sunset and the skyline and also Fort Carroll- there's nothing on the island anymore except the old lighthouse - no trees and no other structures at all. Bob thinks that there weren't any other structures there to begin with, but I thought there were other walls, but I can't find any of my other pictures to show him.

Did not see the Canaveral lighthouse when we came in to Port Canaveral

Two Navy gunboats came out first and then these guys escorted us in

I could see the launch buildings a long way off

Bob didn't want to bother paying for a taxi or excursion and I didn't have the energy to walk out to the bus.

We left way after dark

We had a sea day and then went to Key West.

This was the lighthouse as we left

Our next port was Nassau and we came in too early to get a picture of the lighthouses. We did get a photo of the

Paradise Island lighthouse from Fort Charlotte.

We did see the Arawak Cay structure which is sometimes mixed up with the lighthouse as there are bridges nearby which might be mistaken for the ones across Nassau Harbor.

We also visited the water tower and Fort Fincastle

And Fort Montagu which protects the east end of the harbor

THe next day we went to Coco Cay which is in the Berry Islands. It was cool and windy so we did not go ashore - just took photos from the deck. I took pictures of the structures on each end of the points (one on the right and one on the left)

and of the other buildings there. Imagine my surprise when I looked at my photo later, and saw a lighthouse there

We are about at the end of this cruise, but we are doing a back-to-back which means two cruises in a row on the same ship - different itinerary. This time we are going to Haiti (Labadee which is an isolated beach), Samana (Dominican Republic), San Juan P.R., St. Thomas, St. Maartin and Tortola.

Thanks Rosalie!

(did you know if you do a search for "Rosalie" on the Lighthouse Directory site, you get 10...count them, 10 pages Rosalie has contributed pictures to?)

Doing my Johnny Carson imitation "I did not KNOW that" - I did know that Russ used some of my photos but I didn't count.

I haven't given him the album of the Panama Canal lights yet.

We were in Labadee yesterday. Bob was wheeling me in the wheelchair and came to some kind of joint in the concrete walk (what do they need expansion joints for there? It doesn't freeze). The front wheels stopped abruptly and I did not - ending up on my hand and knees - I grabbed the camera with one hand so it wouldn't hit the ground.

Later I did the Dragon's Tail coaster which I did very slowly.

They let the guy behind me go around again.

Did not see any lighthouse or ATON type structures.

Today we were in Samana, Dominican Republic and we went whale watching. I saw a couple of things which might be lighthouses - they were like the ones we saw on San Andreas Island

We also saw a mother and baby whale and watched them for a good amount of time

I got up at 6 to be sure to be on deck when we came in to San Juan to take photos of El Moro. I got about 30 pictures coming in, some of which I think might work as Forum logo pictures.

The lighthouse was operating.

Later I took the free trolley up. There were people flying kites. It looks like they are repainting the lighthouse pink. The trolley went all the way to the fort entrance.

As we left I took some more pictures.

The lighthouse did not seem to be operating at this time. Maybe it is only working in the dark.

I've put 44 of the best ones up on Picasa El Moro
