I found some photos of the Coast Guard Academy Chapel in my fathers slides taken in 1960.

chapel in setting sunlight

My mom's notes for this picture, which are a little hard to read say
Quote:
US Coast Guard Academy chapel - 5" high on solid granite strawberry red brick oversized in the Williamsburg style

I don't understand what is 5" high - the bricks?

Then written in tiny writing on this slide it says

Quote:
White colonial-style chapel is located on the highest hill in New London, CT and its steeple with its rotating Pierhead tower Lantern like Great Lakes lighthouse - can be seen all over the surrounding area. Below lantern is memorial wreath and then fencing typifies Widows' Walk - below than is sold VT marble bollards to which ships tie in port

I have never heard of a lighthouse chapel. Is this what it is?

That doesn't sound like much of a foundation - solid granite or not. My mother apparently was copying from a brochure which I do not have and I can't find anything on the internet.
