Hi Everyone.
First of all, on behalf of all HL dealers, I'd like to thank Rich, Daniel, John, Tony, and all of the rest of the forum members who thought this was a good idea and caused this dealers' forum to become reality. Though you've heard the horror stories of some bad dealers out there, and some of you may be skeptical of all dealers, there are many, many very reputable dealers out there as well, as I'm sure you will see through this forum. I'm sure you will find many who welcome this opportunity as much as Terry and I do.
Many of you have read my posts over the last year, or so on the dealer perspective of issues which concern us all. I've also been priveledged to service a number of you through the website and hooked up a few of you with some very special HL lighthouses.
I will soon be telling you all about our complete line of HL merchandise and what we have to offer you as a collector, but first I thought that many of you may have fun with a monthly contest we run called Guess-the-Lighthouse. Each month we post a new mystery lighthouse photo and ask you to identify it. It's free to play and we give out some nice lighthouse prizes each month to one random winner from all correct entries.

Thank you Roland for your kind words, but, you missed a key player in the organization, talks with Tony and finally the initial setup of the Dealer's Forum. I'm talking about Retired Navy Chief Dave. Hopefully, this Forum will be useful and we can have many dealers post. You scratch our backs and we'll scratch yours so to speak.

Back to the dealers

As I have said before. The dealers are a very important part of our collecting and before the Forums all I had was my dealer to help me thru collecting Harbour Lights. This part of the forum will hopefully bind back the gap that has happened between collectors and dealers.

As usual I always enjoy reading Rolands Post.

I know a number of the members of this forum entered our Guess-the-Lighthouse photo contest in November, (In fact, one of this forum's members was randomly chosen as the winner). Last month's winner has now been posted and a new mystery photo has gone up for the month of December.

I have just received my prize for winning the November contest. Yes, it was an easy guess, and then names were entered for a drawing.

And December's is an easy guess. Dana & Roland promise more challenging photos are coming.

But, easy or challenging, it's well worth the entry. I won't tell you the contents of the package, in case they plan to repeat it for the next winner.

For the many forum members who entered last month's contest, our December Guess-the-Lighthouse winner has been announced, and this month's mystery photo has been posted. The last two months have featured very recognizable lighthouses, Montauk Point and Nubble. This month's isn't quite as recognizable, but in no way is it an obscure one, (Dana may have a trick up her sleeve for one or two of those real toughies later in the year, though).

OK, another month has passed and I'm sure many of you are wondering who won January's Guess-the-Lighthouse contest. This is fun, looking forward to Dana's picks every month!

So far this month we've gotten some correct answers to the mystery photo, but based on the past few months it appears that this is a tougher one as the responses are much lower than they have been. Maybe an easy one for you, but not so easy for others.
Glad you're enjoying it Christopher. I rather enjoy seeing what she's come up with each month as well. We're having loads of fun with it on this end. Hope everyone else enjoys it as much!

It's that time again when last month's Guess-the-Lighthouse winner is announced and this month's mystery photo has been revealed. Due to the challenge of last month's photo, (to many, not all), Dana has chosen a much more distinctive lighthouse to post this month. It's probably going to be a breeze to nearly all of the forums members, but we also have to keep our general public interested in the contest, as well. Too many hard ones and the casual lighthousing public gets turned off. Gotta give everyone a chance! So even if you are one of those "newbies" to lighthousing, I think this one may be more recognizable to you!

Another month is here and another lighthouse photo has been posted. Surprisingly, last month's mystery photo was more difficult than Newport News Middle Ground was in February. Correct entries were fewer in March than in February.
Dana has chosen a lighthouse this month which I'm sure will be an easily recognizable one for almost every lighthouse fan. She thought that an easier one would give more people a chance at this month's prize pack.

As a new lighthouse ??? I had to look up this months lighthouse. I found it quickly. Easy is subjective Point Sur or Cabrillo I would have known,but looking it up was fun. I look forward to more.

What a nice surprise to win! Seeing Point Sur in that picture just reminded me about the "little climb" you have to make just to get to it. However, it is truly worth it.

May's mystery lighthouse photo must have been tougher than we thought. Lots and lots of viewers stopping by, but entries were down from the previous few months. Also wrong entries were slightly higher than normal. Goes to show that one never knows which lighthouses may not be as recognizable as one thinks!
June's mystery lighthouse photo may fall into that category as well. I think it's one which is recognizable, but then again......

I like this monthly contest, it is not only engaging in which collectors and lighthouse enthusiasts can take part in, and learn new lights that they may not have know, but to be able to win a prize is GREAT!

Roland, whatever light Dana picks still gets people involved. For all that may know it right away I bet there are many more who have to do some research to sort it out. And by doing that research they will learn more and more lights by sight. So, I believe that you and Dana are doing the lighthouse community a service by encouraging people to learn the lights.

That's the whole idea behind the Guess-the-Lighthouse game. Every month we get entrants who thank us for teaching them more about lighthouses than they could have learned on their own. We try to bring a little fun to the learning process, along with the incentive of winning a cool prize pack. And the more people know about lighthouses, the more they appreciate them and the efforts of lighthouse preservation groups.

See, Laura is learning! There are almost always going to be those that have been to the light in question or who recognize it from their own previous studies. But there are also those like Laura who go thru a number of states to find the right light! And, that is what the purpose of the contest is.

I wish I was around last month. I touched Marrowstone Point a few year ago. This months is really easy. lol

This is one reason I want the next HL reunion in the Seattle area, there are so many great lighthouses in the area and very few collectors have had a chance to visit them...

You are so right, Paul. The WA lights are terrific and a boat ride to the San Juans would be a bonus for everyone.

Thanks, Bob. You know we just have to keep on the move or we would never see a real lighthouse in Colorado! That one was easy as I took a photo of Bill standing in the middle of the arch a few years ago. I love its unique design. Of course I like all the weird ones and am still waiting for Harry to do the Buffalo Bottle Light!
