I use a Nikon D70S, but am going to replace it soon. It takes great photos during the daylight, but in low light settings, it won't autofocus. 2 years ago, I was on a sailboat, and a wave crashed over the bow, and my camera took a direct hit from it. It was ok for about a year and a half, but on my second trip to the Oak Island Lighthouse at sunset, it stopped autofocusing. The photos I took were focused manually. I've stopped doing weddings until I replace the camera. I'm probably going to get a Nikon D80, but I really want a D300.

This space for rent. Inquire within.

I would get the D300 if at all possible. I have shot weddings with the D70, D2X, and D200. I now have the D300 and there is absolutely nothing I dislike about this camera. Focusing, metering, image quality, low light level shooting, and the large LCD to name a few of the features I feel set this camera apart from the D80 and even other Nikon DSLRs. Even at the high ISO settings photos are outstanding. If you plan to do wedding work I highly recommend the D300. Another advantage of the D300 over the D80, particularly if you plan to be on the water again, is the weather seals on the D300 versus the D80. If you are on the fence between the two, you might see if you can rent a camera body for a day and see which one you prefer after a little hands-on time.
