Opinions or thoughts?
I was set to pick up the d-60 (even picked up filters at ritz ) but the 5000 looks interesting.....

Jim, this is a great site for extensive reviews (which I think has been posted to the forums before):

I notice The 5000 hasn't been reviewed yet, but I would expect it soon.

Between the two I would probably lean towards the 5000. However, the big issue with both cameras is that they do not have an in-camera motor for autofocus. You have to buy a newer model lens with a motor built into the lens. My daughter has a D-40, which she really likes and has done nicely for her. However, she can't use my lenses from the D-70 and get autofocus with them. She is on a trip right now and had to purchase a new, longer lens to take with her because my would not give her the autofocus ability.

All in all, I think the feature set on the 5000 sounds nicer than the D-60's. And, it now has an image stabilized kit lens I believe.

Here\'s another site with a preview of the 5000

Thanks, Gents. Do you think it's worth the jump to the D-90?

D-90 will up the ante price wise - probably another $300 plus. The trade would be you are getting a camera further up the scale, pretty much at the upper end of the consumer scale. Don't believe you get the capability to shoot video, but that may not be a big issue for you. Always nice if you have a camera shop and knowledgeable sales person who can put all three in front of you and explain the benefits of each choice (and also the downsides).

Any DX lens will work with the D60. I recommend it over the 5000 simply because the 5000 is a cheaper version of the D90...which would be a great camera if it werent for the stupid video feature. I was about to replace my D70 when the D90 came out, and decided to get a D80 instead.

Good point one and all. We just sold our D-60 due to its limited use of lenses and focus points. We had it 3 mos before we realized the mistake we made in our selection. We were being cost minded instead of usuable feature minded. We are now upgrading to the D-90, which as many have pointed out that it is a more flexible camera. Meaning the motor is in the body which accepts more lenses for AF and has 11 focus points instead of the 3 that the D-60 offers.
