"There's no business like snow business
(especially if you live in one of these cities)"

That's the title of the article from which this is an excerpt:

"The East Coast has many reputations… a highly educated populous, a harmonious balance of urban and country landscapes, and, you can't forget, its infamous "can't leave the house for a week" blizzards. To no surprise the area is home to 6 of the top 10 snowiest places in America (excluding mountainous regions and Alaska). The great state of Michigan, with its strong lake effect weather, takes care of the remaining four.

Cities ranked by annual snowfall in inches:

1. Marquette, MI 144.1
2. Syracus, NY 118.1
3. Sault Ste. Marie, MI 117.4
4. Caribou, ME 112.3
5. Muskegon, MI 95.7
6. Buffalo, NY 94.1
7. Rochester, NY 93.3
8. Erie, PA 91.0
9. Binghamton, NY 85.5
10. Alpena, MI 84.7"

And, of course, there are lighthouses in these places! It's no wonder that some of my favorite lighthouse pictures are of the towers in the grip of winter. The new South Haven release captures such an image perfectly!! applaud

You thought you'd left that behind you, didn't you, Kay? Well, you and I can't complain like our friends up north. Tonight will be the third time we've had freezing weather, but the daytime temps have been in the 50's, making it really pleasant in sunny Texas. cool

Gee, it got up to about 14 today, with a -10 wind chill. A bit nippy.... supposed to be in the 50s by Sunday. Great way to get everyone nice and sick.

We go from a day of freezing weather with wind that blasts through like a hurricane. Next day we'll be up to the 60's with lots of sunshine. Then we'll get rain that floods much of the city, then down to the 40's and on and on and on. It is terribly unpredictaable. We go from hot to cold, dry to wet and back again and people stay sick all winter. The thermostat has to be on auto so that either ac or heat will kick in as needed. However, it's a lot cheaper than all that fuel you have to use up north.

Not that much snow YET in the Syracuse area but it is cold, 11 right now up from -4 this morning. We have the same forecast Dave mentioned, a day or so later, 55 by next Tuesday. Overall our temps have been way above average.

The temp was around 14 degrees last night, 4 degrees if you factor in the wind chill.

Temperature here yesterday was -17. Fortunately, there wasn't any wind until later in the day.
Warmer today-30 but windy!

Seems like we have weather like Texas. Yesterday, cold - icy even - but clear. Today warmer, wet and miserable.

I believe Debbie is using the "-" as a hyphen, not as the minus symbol..... I don't think it has been that cold up there yet, and I certainly don't think she would consider -30 a warmup from -17!

We are headed from an overnight temp of zero a couple of nights ago to a projected high of the 50s this weekend. Wonder how many people that will put in the sick call line????

We were right at freezing night before last. Today, it was back up to the 60's - a fluctuation of some 30 degrees. A couple of days ago it was sunny; today it was very overcast and some rain is predicted early in the week. I wouldn't want some of the temps you all are having up north, though. Brrrrr!

Thanks for pointing out my error Dave. It was +30. I didn't realize that when I added the hyphen...it made it look like -30. Definitely NOT a warm up! laugh
Yesterday it was in the 40's. But is terribly foggy. Fog advisories all over the state and schools are either closed or on 2 hr delay start times this morning.
The prediction is maybe up in the 50's today. I heard that Chicago might see 70!
Very unpredictable indeed!!!

It was up to 80 here yesterday. Tomorrow night we should be back down to the 40's, then it's going up again until the weekend when it's supposed to drop down to the 40's again. Those "low" temps are mostly at night. The daytime temps had been somewhat pleasant - 50's to 60's - until it shot up to the high 70's and low 80's!

How about what a difference a few hours makes? Since I posted this morning we have had rain showers followed by a thunderstorm with lightning, hail, and a real downpour!
Quite a bit of the snow has disappeared...probably nature's way of making room for the next onslaught!

It feels like spring today. Temps are in the 60's.

It's not often you see people washing their cars or giving their dogs a bath in January.

It was 64 here yesterday and today we hit 70! Both were records. I.O. came home with the newspaper and said, "Your ex made the front page." It only took me a few seconds to guess why. He was in a photo with two other guys golfing.

... that is how you catch colds. Your body never knows what to adjust to and you never know how to dress. So you are either too cold or too warm.

Hope that doesn't happen to you Grace! smile

We are hovering around the 60s in the day time and colder at night. And we are getting quite a bit of rain and hail storms.

On Monday, I posted that we had thunder, lightning and hail. I just found out that south of Milwaukee and near Kenosha...there were several tornados that spawned and did damage.
If memory serves (which it doesn't always  ), the last time this happened was in the 1970s.

We are having beautiful weather here on the
sunny west coast of Florida.
There was a very bad accident on Route Four early this morning because of the fog. There were many vehicles involved. The rescue teams
were having trouble locating the victims. they couldn't see because the fog was so thick.
