If you haven't purchased a copy of Bob Muller's latest book (in the Postcard History Series), you really should. If you love lighthouses, history and/or old postcards (and most of us do), you will thoroughly enjoy this lovely book.
I was reminded of it when Bob Scroope posted his beautiful picture of Stepping Stones Lighthouse. The first picture in Chapter Eight of Bob's (Muller) book is of a 1924 postcard of Stepping Stones.
Chapter Eight is dedicated to Long Island Sound, Fisher's Island Sound, and Gardiner's Bay. Each old postcard is accompanied by a brief description of the lighthouse. In the case of Stepping Stones, I discovered that it received its name beause of several shallow areas in the vicinity. These were called the Devil's Stepping Stones because the devil was supposedly chased from the Westchester County area, and he used the shallow areas as "stepping stones" to get away.
This book is done just beautifully; it's one of those you will enjoy curling up with, to be perused over and over. Bob probably thought I was nuts because I told him that it is visually pleasing along with having that fragrance that books should have but don't very often anymore. So, along with being very informative, it is very aesthetically pleasing. Check it out!
