We have numerous great books here in the US about lighthouses and lighthouse travel. Does anyone know if similar books exist (preferably in English) about lighthouses in Europe? For that matter, about any other countries or continents in the world. If so, where could I find a site to purchase?

I expect to be travelling to Denmark and Germany later this year and to South America next year and would like to have a guide book showing the lighthouses, their locations and directions.

Larry, have you tried Amazon? You can go into Amazon and go to the International section (right under the tabs in the home page) where the listing is for various countries. Or do a google search for Amazon.co.uk or Amazon Germany. The German site does have a "books in English" section. The UK site may carry books for all of Europe. They usually are cheaper than the American Amazon, too; we have purchased dvd's that way, too. Good luck!

Thanks for the idea Grace. I did a search on both the UK and German sites and didn't find anything of interest in English. On the Amazon.de (German company) there appears to be one or more books which could be of interest except they are in German, so I can't understand even the descriptions. You have to search for "leuchtturms" which is lighthouse in German. Does anyone out there speak German enough to translate the description of the book(s) that come up after this search?

Larry, your best bet would probably be just to look for info on the web. You should find sites for both Denmark and Germany. Then just learn to say, "Where is the lighthouse" in German and Danish. laugh

Larry, try emailing Margret (Butcher). I believe she is currently visiting in California but she checks her email. It is keepers@lighthouse-duo.net. She is German and lives in England and has a wealth of information on lighthouses worldwide. She will be a big help. Good luck!
