Does anyone know anything about the "Guardians of the Night" series?
I see it listed in Harbor Lights' website, but I've never seen one anywhere.
The numbering starts with GN001 Alcatraz, CA and goes to GN018 Liberty Enlightening the World (isn't that HL627?)

These were another series made to be in competition with lefton. Lefton when out of business for a while and HL started a line of lights that was similar but better made. These were designed to take up where Lefton left off.
They were large and lighted. JC said that Kim could not give the exact number of production but estimates around 1200. There is one model that is very hard to find and in my opinion my have a smaller production. Any guesses on which one?

Here is the list and their numbers. They retired in 2004 and still can be found on ebay or sometimes a HL dealer.

GN001 Alcatraz CA USA 2-Nov 4-Dec $48.00 Open Guardians of the Night

GN002 Sea Pines SC USA 2-Nov 4-Dec $48.00 Open Guardians of the Night

Don't have a guess, Daniel, but I am interested in hearing the answer.

I'd be interested in which of GN's deserves special attention.

I started to follow the Guardians of the night right after they retired. I was going to put a set together but stopped about half-way through. I could not justify buying them and putting them in storage. They just took up too much room. I do have a few in the house on tables and that is what they are best at. Just having a few around the house as lighted features is great, but a full collection takes allot of room.

Since I was interested in them I have followed the GN's on eBay since they retired. The surprising thing that I noticed was that the Statue of Liberty GN018 was never on eBay.

My suspicion is that the three last GN's had a lower production number than the first 12. Remember the last three were not issued the same year as the first 12. They came over on a different boat and there is a chance they didn’t even have the same amount produced.
All the other Guardians have been on eBay and have run about from $15 to $60. The Liberty is very popular which also makes it hard to find.

Thanks Daniel. The Statute of Liberty was my first thought when you posed the question, only because it was one of the last ones made and one that the general public might purchase.

They make great night lights. My grandson likes them as such, but Bodie Island remans my night light.

Was it Scassis that made these (size wise) that gave them flashing lights? Headache makers!

I have the full set and they are rotated as three night lights, two at our house when Chloe stays over and one at my son's house in the guest bathroom.. They make great night lights.

Yes, Scaasis' version was called Nautical Lights of the Sea. They have 2 bulbs, one constant white at the bottom of the tower, and a flasher toward the top of the tower. There were approximately 60 or so different lights made, but the Chinese factory that made them went out of business and Scaasis couldn't find another one to do it for the same quality and cost, so they discontinued the line. A handful remain in their inventory, but nearly all of them are now sold out.

Thanks Roland. I have a few of them which a Scassis rep gave me. They are neat with the flashing light...just not in terms of a nightlight. Also the lighthouse itself is much more realistic than Lefton's attempts.

Never have been a fan of Lefton's or Spoontiques lighthouses.
