What color or colors were used to paint the doors and windows on the Coquille River, OR HL#111. I have a Canadian made version that it appears to me that the windows and doors are black or the darkest green I have ever seen. However, looking at the variation photos on the Harbour Lights site, the California made Coquille River appears to have black doors and windows while the Canadian made Coquille River has what is obviously a green door and windows. Was the color changed from black to green at some point in the Canadian production? Does anyone know?

Thanks,

Lighthouse Ghost

Gee...does this question have everyone stumped? I would have thought that John, Dave and Paul would have all known the answer to this one.

Mine is very dark green which almost looks black depending on the lighting... It is the one that is pictured in the catalog at HarbourLights.com... The close-ups of the doors are of two other Coquilles not mine.. I have seen some that are considerably lighter green than mine.. I hope that helps! Mine is Canadian..

Thanks for the reply Paul. In the picture of yours in the catalog at HarbourLights.com your doors and windows appear black. When I get home I am going to have to take mine back out and examine it more closely.

Wow, you expect an answer in 17 minutes.
It is not a real simple question you ask.

First question to you is how do you know that it is a Canadian mold?
The second question is what is the number?
Third question is how many panels on the door?

First of all the only true test that it is a Canadian mold is the number of panels on the door.
A California has three and a Canadian mold has four. Whatever color layout you have will not change it from being a Canadian to a California.
The Canadian mold usually has more of a standard color pattern.
Dark green building roof (some darker than others) with matching colored windows and doors and a darker green lighthouse tower roof. Catwalk is brown and the window frames at the light room are cream.
The California on the other hand can have either the dark green or cream window frame at the light room. The rest of the color patterns pretty much stay the same as the Canadian except for the building roof is usually a very dark green that is almost black.

Tell us the number and the number of panels on the door and we can go from there.
If the felt is not a green flocking that is set back 1/8 “be sure to mention that.

There is a lot more to this Canada verses California but I do not have the time right now to go through it all.

Can you take a picture?

Paul, thanks again.

Dave, this one wasn't in my inventory either until recently. Now, if I could just find one of the 250 or so original Cape Hatteras pieces at a resonable price, I would have at least one of every Limited Edition and GLOW.

Daniel, I did not expect an answer in 17 minutes. I posted the original question yesterday and was surprised no one had responded in 22+ hours when usually things are answered around here pretty quick.

I know my piece is Canadian made as I stated originally for the following reasons:

1. Made In Canada Sticker On Bottom
2. Green Felt/Flocking Is Set Back Approx. 1/8"
3. Four Panel Door
4. Frames Of The Windows On The Lantern Room Are Cream

I asked the question because my door and windows are very dark. They are either black or very very dark green. The variation pictures on Harbour Lights site show what appears to be a black or dark green door on the California mold and a much much lighter green on the Canadian mold so I was curious if there was a paint color change at some point during the Canadian production.

I'll edeavor to take a photo and try to figure out how to post it here.

Regards,

Lighthouse Ghost

I have been looking at mine closely this evening and here is the best way I know to describe it: The roof is painted a dark green and then it looks like black was applied over it to give it a weathered appearance (it is a technique I use often in my other hobby of model railroading). I believe the same thing may have been done to the door and windows as well except that so much black is there in these areas that the green really does not show. It will likely be this weekend before I can take pictures and upload them but I will endeavor to do so.

Regards,

Lighthouse Ghost
