I recently picked up a postcard of the Outer Light, Saybrook Ct. Looks like the HL Old Saybrook Liight. I finally got around to reading the back of the card and find that I must share this card with all of you.
It says:
This is my house. How would you like to live here. Piazza goes clear around the house, so I have my hammock out at most any wind.
I have a box of pansies, lillys, geraniums and raddish & lettuce all in boxes in the south side of the light where you see the platform built ouut. I have lots of flowers in bloom in the house. Helitrope, primroses (2) 5 geraniums. So I am contented with all these boats going up the river at all times of the day, yachts, etc. Come and see me sometime,
Marietta C. Knowles.
I thought all of you might enjoy a glimpse into the life of what may have been a lightkeepers wife.
Maybe some historian down Connecticut way could enlighten us as to who she might have been and when she was at the light. Was she or her husband the keeper? The card unfortunately is not dated.
Anyone out there who can help us?
