Be patient! The fate of the CF special is now in the hands of our two hardest working committee members, John & Dave. They are the committee's direct representatives dealing with Harbour Lights.

"He who hesitates, is lost." Will you be one of the lucky ones to get one of these very special pieces before they sell out? Watch for the form and order early!

Flying up to Maryland Friday mid-day will be out of computer range for at least Saturday, Sunday.
Should I be worried?

Hang on everyone. We have a problem in the world of computers that John is feverishly working on(hey John, that eleventh martini is going to fix it). We have some backup plans, but, John is not giving up at this point.

It's the #$%#&!# Order Form. I'm on hold with Microsoft Technical Support (in India, I think) right now.

Must frustrating thing I've worked on in years!

John,

I agree with Bert. Just keep at it. Maybe you could have someone you know and trust take a look at what you've created. When I was encoding, sometimes a fresh person not directly involved could find the problem with a process or program almost immediately. Who knows? Might work.

Just try to be very patient with the folks you are talking to from Microsoft.

Thanks to "Xavier" at Microsoft Tech Support in India, we are in business. (My new buddy; we talked for two hours!)

We are taking orders starting now at THIS LINK

Each registered Collectors Forum member can order 2. A total of 495 will be available. (Five are being held back for future fund raising.)

Approximate size is 5-6" in height - similar to Cockspur GA and Concord MD. The price is $50 each. A deposit of $25 is required for each piece at the time you order.

We've also commissioned a collector pin of the Erie Land Light and if you choose to prepay the full amount now, we'll send you a complimentary pin when they are available in a few weeks (2 pins if you order 2 of the Erie Land Lights.)

Pin will be similar to this.

Heads Up: If your reading this, now is the time to order. Next Wednesday, we'll send out an email to the 1,600 registered users.

If you are one of our "Silent Supporters", we'd love to have you join us and order. Just click on the "Register" link up at the top of this page.

Thanks to the Work Team for all their hard work! Thanks to Rod Watson for his fresh photos of the Erie Land Light! Thanks to Harbour Lights for working with us.

Talked to Harry Hine today and he's excited about getting on this project for us. He says we'll see photos of a paint sample sometime in November.

Well, my payments sent in full!! laugh One thing though, I thought that there was an additional $1.50 for the PayPal charges (not that I mind that you "waived" them), but there was nothing about it or anywhere where I could add it. confused

This is the very first one!

Steve - we decided to eat the PayPal fee - but encourage people to pay by check or money order.

I paid by PayPal as well, and like Doc I'd be more than happy to send additional $$ to cover the PayPal fee so more money goes to lighthouse preservation.

Mark - We are not going to assign numbers for the pieces. We will have a random drawing for numbers from all that buy. We felt this was the best way to do it

Roger and anybody else asking this question-

Here's the simpliest way to cover the Paypal costs-

Go into your Paypal acount and determine the e-mail address that the payment was sent to and send an additional payment of $1.50 to that e-mail address.

If you don't want to do that send a check directly to Dave in that amount.

A third alternative is to send your extra payments to my Paypal account. laugh

I'll provide you with the e-mail upon request.

Thanks to all involved in the creation of this piece. The pin for prepaying the full amount is a nice touch.

Greg - You can order at anytime until they are sold out, then it's too late. We opened up the ordering for the active Forum members so they could get their ordering done early. Sometime about the middle of this coming week an email will be sent to all 1600 Forum members(active and non-active) to give ALL members a chance to order. After a short ordering period, and if there are any left, the chance to buy 1 or 2 of these pieces will be given to the Reunion attendees. The sooner you order the better and remember if you pay in full at the time of ordering you will also receive a pin of the ELL at no additional charge. Your order will be taken but will not be official until at least a 50%($25.00) down payment is received. Does that answer all your questions young man?

Steve,

Here's a question for you connected to your post on the ebay auction-

How many of the CF Exclusive did you order?

What do you think many of the people who ordered two are going to do with the second one?

If you ordered two what are you planning on doing with the extra one?

I can hazard a guess that many who ordered two are hoping to sell one for enough to cover the cost of the one that they keep- be it in trade for another piece they want or a straight cash sale.

That's one of the things that serious collectors of items do. Thye won't give anybody here a bad deal but many will want to do the above. It's one reason the limit was set at 2.

It's just that old Capitalistic Attitude that made this country what it is today. Don't get me wrong- I'm not saying it's a bad thing or a good thing it's just the way things are done.

Dennis

Dennis,

I ordered 1 due to the fact that I have limited room and hope to not have to sell anything I own, much less my lights though you can't blame one for trying to cover the cost of the other; just like selling a car to help cover the cost of the new vehicle, but though you may try and sell a DeLaurean to cover the cost of a Buick (or even a similar DeLaurean), you can't expect to sell a Kharman Ghia to cover the DeLaurean, and gas for life and part of your house payment too!! But then again, if someone will give you that much money, who would turn it down?? laugh

Does that analogy make since?? confused

Maybe if I was more familiar with the market and knew how to play the "cards", I might have bought two, but I'm not a greedy person (to eliminate the chance of a person getting one due to me buying an extra), or, don't have the luck to sell and get the most for it. I'd be the one who'd post it and get 5 bids and either wouldn't sell it ot only get part of what someone else would post and get a taker for. frown

Steve

Just placed the order...one ELL for me. I don't need another one, and I can't buy $100 worth of lighthouses anyway.

No lunch money or anything...just my mom's PayPal account! (She knows, don't worry.) I work for her, and I get a "credit account" that I can use to buy things. I'll just deduct from it right now.

I'm stuck...I want to get the pin, since I have a hat of pins and would love to add it. But I can't afford to pay the full $50 now. I guess I won't have a pin...but still a lighthouse. frown

Looking forward to this developing! smile

Thanks to all who made this possible(John, Dave etal).

Greg - we have an exception for those under 18 - you get a free pin when you buy.

Steve,

Your point is well taken. I just care for the greed description.

It's the doble edged sword of the collectible purchase decision- if you buy two that means somebody who wants one won't get it the lower the number made the more likely this happens (of course supply has to be less than demand for this to occurr, i.e. the 10,000 edition LE's are still sitting on shelfs out there somewhere)

You can then sell your extra and hope to make a profit on it and if you are really lucky make enough so your's is free or even better you get some extra money.

There are collectors who buy to collect, there are those that buy to specualte and there are those that do a mix of both. Again, not right not wrong in any of the three cases. Case 2 and 3 are taking a risk and many got burned by doing this. It's hard to get burned in Case # 1 except that now many of the items people bought they could get for less than they paid.

Again, this is the system that made our country what it is- capatilism, supply and demand boom & bust. You roll the dice and you take your chances.

Dennis

John - Your just an old softie! I was going to give one of my pins to Greg(since I don't collect them) until your gracious offer. Thanks again John.

Steve - For many years I bought extras of pieces that I knew would go up in value. I paid hard cold cash for these pieces in hopes that they would increase in value. Some did and some didn't. I still have 15 extra pieces left that the market fell out on. In the heydays of Harbour Lights(93 thru 97) when they were bringing out in the neighborhood of 20+ pieces a year and I was also trying to get the older pieces that I needed for my collection it was not uncommon to spend $2000-$3000 dollars a year keeping up with new releases and bankrolling that "older piece" that popped up in a out of the way store. The only way that I could afford to do that was buy a "sure thing" and keep it a few years till it went up in value. Is that wrong? Maybe you think so but most of us older collectors needed to do that in some form to keep our collections going. I have never sold on Ebay and don't intend to as I don't care for bidding wars. I'm not saying this is wrong but I don't care for it. I have always sold through the Collector Forums and have either stated my price or let the potential buyer make me an offer. No bidding wars there and you can either make an offer or accept my price.

I am buying two of the ELL. One for my collection and one for my son that lived in Erie for a year after my father died. If I'm fortunate to be able to buy a third piece I will keep that for speculation. Maybe a Split Rock or Burrows Island(wrong states) will surface and someone may want to trade for this very limited edition rare piece. Am I greedy? I don't think so as every Forum member will have his or her chance to do the same thing. An example: if you had a chance to buy a limited edition Volkswagan for $5,000 that you knew was going to increase in value after a short time, and you could afford to buy two, what would you do? I know I would buy two of them. Will every Forum member buy this light? No way Jose. Will every Forum member that buys a light buy two? Again, no way Jose. Will we have enough of the 500 to satisfy every Forum members wants. I would venture a guess that we will satisfy all our members and that we will have a few left over so that the Reunion attendees get their chance to buy one or two if they're quick at the draw. He who hesitates is going to be lost I believe so get them while they're available.

It's as Dennis said when he mentioned there is nothing wrong in any of these cases. It's what you want to do that is right as long as your not breaking any laws and that is what makes this country so great.

Rich, et al.,

I'm not incenuating anything about anyone as each individual would handle their situation differently and different people have different options (as with the atendees if these don't sell out) over others on the forum. My choice of the word greedy in my last post was admittedly off from previous usages for it, and I was not incenuating if you buy two and there's only one of you, that you are doing it to be greedy, but my reasoning for getting only one, though probably multi-faceted, was mainly to give one more person a shot. Am I more noble for leaving one for someone else that may not otherwise get one than you Rich who wants to give one to your son? NO; two different cases, two different reasons of doing what we did.

I don't know the person that put this up for sale (or DO I?!? wink ), so I can't judge there intentions. There coulda been greed, there coulda been trying to make some of their money back, there coulda been other reasons. Is it wrong to try and make some money back on your purchases or otherwise save money? No, I wish I coulda saved more money than what I have on the over $10,000 worth that I've bought. If someone can make $1,800 on a piece should they refuse it...pfft, what do I look stupid?? But should someone ask for $1800 to even qualify (which I doubt the reserve was near that), I'd call that greed! If someone wants to sell it but only if the price is right, then you have the right to have a reserve, but considering the market and he who buys it today probably won't get their money back anytime soon (if ever - depending on their cost), so while trying to sell, you also have to be reasonable.

Steve - I knew what you were trying to say and in a lot of cases I agree with you and then there are some cases where a person is just trying to recoup some of their money. That is why I have sold all my lighthouses on the Forums with a set price. If the price agrees with someone's budget they will buy it or make a counter offer. I was just trying to explain the other side of the coin. In fact, to give an example, that is how I was able to get my Coquille River. I had bought extra lighthouses since the beginning and happened across a chance to trade twelve lighthouses for a Coquille in 1996. That was when a Coquille was going in the $2600-$2800 range. I had about $900 invested in my extra lights and on the Secondary Market they were worth about $3000. I was happy, the dealer was happy, the collectors he sold these lights to were happy and I couldn't have done it without speculating. This is an example of how taking a chance on a sure thing payed off.

Not everyone will buy just one, most will probably buy two and if lucky, some of us will buy three. Most of us have our reason and that is fine. If I see one show up on Ebay then that is fine as someone that joins these Forums later on and didn't have a chance to buy now will have their chance. It's all about supply and demand.

Your chance to buy one or two is your choice and you should not feel that you are taking away from some other collector if you buy a 2nd piece. Everyone will have their fair chance and if we, the committee members had thought that a member wouldn't have a fair chance, we would not have allowed everyone to buy two at the beginning.

Thanks, Eric. You are one of many who have responded to the email notification sent out last night to those for whom we have email addresses from the Collector Forums.

I want to assure everyone that this project is going to happen. Sales are going very well and anyone who was holding backing thinking that perhaps it wouldn't happen needs to get their order in.

While we don't expect to have photos of the paint sample until November, I've asked Harry for permission to post the drawings he will be sending to the artist soon. This will really be a first -- to see the drawings before the sculpture!

Why does a person have to be a member of Collector Forums on or before September 15, 2005, when the lighthouse is not scheduled to be delivered until some time next year? I became a member on September 20th and just read about this lighthouse and would like to purchase at least one of them. I would not be buying it for speculation. I have a Harbour Lights collection that includes everything offered by Harbour Lights except the Littel Light of Mine lighthouses. I have tried to get each mold and variation of each lighthouse and am either displaying them or will be displaying them. I read in one of the posts above that you might offer this lighthouse to reunion attendees if they don't sell out. Why would that be a better criteria than a present member that was unfortunate in finding your forum until after your deadline? Is that date written in stone or is there a chance I could purchase one or two of this lighthouse? Thanks for listening.

Scott

Scott - You can purchase the piece right now. We had a few days to let the members that frequented the Forums on a regular basis that had joined earlier then 9/15. We now have sent out an Email to all member on either Sunday or Monday night that either didn't read about it on the Forums or had just joined after 9/15. You fell between the cracks by joining after the Email was sent out. Please, by all means order either one piece or up to 2 pieces. There are plenty of posts that have the link to order and in fact this post has the link about 1/3 of the way into the post. Just remember that payment is by check/money order(preferred) or by Paypal or Credit Card. A minimum 50% deposit is required at the time of order(check/money order in the mail is acceptable) or you may pay the entire sum up front and not have to worry about sending the balance when they arrive in the spring of next year. Any questions?

We had earlier discussions that required purchasers to have been members since a certain date. That was intended to 'protect' existing members and assure they could order.

We did not implement that rule. As Rich notes, we first opened up the ordering to those who regularly visit the forums and waited a few days to send an email to all the members. The members have had a 'fair warning' and an opportunity.

You can join today and order today. You DO need to be a member to purchase; it is an exclusive for CF Members. You can purchase up to 2.

Sales are going very well, especially considering we've only been taking orders for one week as of this evening.

This coming week, we expect to post Harry HIne's proposed design of the Erie Land Light. I think once people see what this piece will look like, more orders will come in. No doubt some are reluctant to buy something "light-unseen".

Wow!

Got Harry Hine's plan for the Collectors Forum exclusive Erie Land Light by email and I am impressed.

I think when you all see it you will also be impressed. Harry has included lots of extras on the piece. His drawing specifies a size of 6" in height with the base of 4" (probably by 4"). This is about the size of Cockspur and Concord Point -- but with more 'features.' A lot of 'bang' for the 'buck' -- but it will still fit in your curio.

I'll post a link to a pdf of the drawing Sunday afternoon (AZ time). It is a line drawing of the 'front' of the lighthouse (tower and attached watch/oil storage) and a top down view. Callouts on the drawing show the 'extra features'. The work team has seen the plan - I'll ask them to add their opinions.

Harry will be sending along photos of the piece in the various stages of development and we'll be sharing them here in this Forum. This will be a first for Harbour Lights - showing the development of a piece AS it is being developed.

The line drawing will be sent to the factory for design review and to an artist to begin sculpting early this coming week. Next up will be photos of the wax sculpture.

We are on target to have a photo of the paint sample in November with production of the 500 pieces completed around February 2006.

Got your order in? This is going to be one 'sweet' lighthouse. We started taking orders just over a week ago and you don't want to wait too long to get your order in.

P.S. Old "Bob Younger" will be impressed, too.

Just a thought...will Rick be "our" artist? smile
