We'll be up in the Great Lakes area otherwise we would love to attend. I sure like the idea of an "American Heroes Day."

It seems like there are quite a few lighthouse events happening around the country and that's great news.

There's a photo of the Oregon Inlet Coast Guard preparing to reenact the "breeches buoy" rescue at Chicmacomico on the Fifth District Information Page. Find it HERE

As mentioned before, they also do the reenactment every Thursday at 2pm during the summer months. Anyway, I hope to bring back many more photos. I've wanted to see this for a long time. smile

Continued from post #2...
Kevin Duffus, author of "The Lost Lens" presents his newest book, "Shipwrecks of the Outer Banks".

Kevin signing his new book for my friend Beth Deese, and for me. We were his "groupies" for the weekend. wink

Kevin Duffus making a presentation about the shipwrecks along the NC shore and how the LSS figured into so many rescues...

The "First Historian" of the Outer Banks, David Stick poses with his good friend and younger counterpart, Kevin Duffus. David said that Kevin should sit down for the photograph so they'd be of equal height. smile

I've also posted photos of the beach bouy rescue demonstration here...

and the USCG Rescue at Sea Demo here

Hope you enjoy!

I was really looking forward to your pictures and you didn't disappoint us! It must have been a terrific weekend. If American Heroes Day becomes an annual event, I would sure like to see it in the future. cool

That photo of David Stick is partly for you Grace, since I know you've read at least one of his books.

I loved the picture of the two authors; I'll have to get Kevin's book, too. Thanks, Judy!

Grace, I highly recommend Kevin's book. It's billed as the natural successor to "Graveyard of the Atlantic" by David Stick.

I usually can't read when I go to bed because I fall asleep in the middle of the first page or two. I picked this book up the first night I had it and read over 30 pages before I made myself put it down, knowing I had to get up early and needed some rest.

Also, for those who like the adventure of finding some of these wrecks, Kevin has included GPS coordinates.

For all those who love history and it's many ironies, it's another great book intertwining all the elements.
