To get this forum rolling, I'm curious as to what lifesaving stations you have all seen. Any cool experiences? Special memories? Share them!

I have seen two - Chicamacomico and Oregon Inlet (the white building on the south side of the Oregon Inlet bridge).

My favourite was Chicamacomico. It was a rainy April day, so we were the only ones there. There were two docents who let us everywhere. They told us all the cool facts, showed us all the neat little things you don't ususally see, and gave us more of a free roam of the station than you get with other people. Needless to say, there were large donations made in the format of gift shop purchases. wink

If I remember, they were going to change the layout of the station. Is this true? I havn't heard about it in a while.

So, where have you been? What have you seen? Share! laugh

The only one that I think I have seen is the station next to Herford Inlet in New Jersey. At the time we visited it was late, we didn't have long, and I'm not sure we know what it was at the time.

We've toured Indian River and Ocean City. Have also seen Chicamacomico, Hereford Inlet, and Harbor Beach MI.

I have seen these four: Ocean City, MD; Virginia Beach, VA (excellent museum inside this one); South Manitou Island, MI, & Sleeping Bear Point, MI. (The last two are within Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.) And in the "what's left standing" category, there are ruins of a lifesaving station visible from the trail to Point Bonita Lighthouse; but I don't know the name of the station.

I have a list of all the stations that I have visited on my site, but I think the list is missing one or two, one of which is Oak Island, which I have had the opportunity to visit several times. For the list of stations and photos, follow this link.

By the way, if you get Lighthouse Digest, Christina and I have an article about the Little Kinnakeet LSS in there, I think on page 24.

In my early lighthouse hunting, I was not looking for them, but have managed to see Sullivan's Island,SC, Lewes,DEL and Virgina Beach, VA. I agree the museum at Virginia Beach was excellent, however, the tower was closed at that time.
