smile Rededication and lighting of Avery Point Lighthouse smile

The soon-to-be completed restoration of Avery Point Lighthouse in Groton, CT, will culminate on September 24, 2005, when the lighthouse will be rededicated and relit in a gala ceremony to be held at the lighthouse.

The ceremony will be in conjunction with Groton's 300th anniversary, celebrating the "Past, Present and Future." Three people representing the three eras will simultaneously throw the switch that will relight the historic beacon that has been dark for many years.

The Avery Point Lighthouse, the only lighthouse built in America as a memorial to the keepers of yesterday, has been painstakingly restored thanks to the efforts of the Avery Point Lighthouse Society, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation.

Many dignitaries are expected to attend, including representatives of the Coast Guard, Navy, National Park Service, and state, federal and community leaders.

Tim Harrison, President of the American Lighthouse Foundation will act as Master of Ceremonies.

More details will be posted as they become available.

My best, smile
