Maine Lighthouse Cruise to Benefit Friends of Flying Santa

Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, 10:00 a.m. from Boothbay Harbor

Join the Friends of Flying Santa for a four-hour cruise past scenic coastline and five historic lighthouses. Seen on the cruise will be three lighthouses in the Boothbay Harbor region: Burnt Island,Ram Island, and the Cuckolds. You'll also view the rarely seen Franklin Island Lighthouse in Muscongus Bay, and you'll have the opportunity to see the photogenic Pemaquid Point Light Station from the water. Chances are good that some seals will also be seen along the way.

The narrator for the day will be lighthouse author and historian Jeremy D'Entremont . The boat has an onboard restroom, heated cabin, refreshments, and a 360-degree view of the spectacular scenery along the coast. Tickets are $50.00 and may be ordered by mail, phone, or through the Friends of Flying Santa website at www.flyingsanta.org. Please contact Friends of Flying Santa by phone at (781) 438-4587 for more specific information.

On the day before the cruise, on October 14, at the Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland, Maine, there will be a dedication of a memorial plaque in honor of Capt. William H. Wincapaw, founder of the Flying Santa flights. The dedication will be followed by a presentation on the 77-year-old Flying Santa tradition. The time for this event will be announced soon.
