This looks GREAT! Like the NJ and MD challenges, is there something to collect? This looks like a great way to see these lights which I have not been to! laugh

I'll have to ask Esther about this- not sure that's how she would want to spend her birthday (5-14).

We've been to most but there are still acouple we haven't been to yet. I'll definitely get some of those raffle tickets.

Greg: After quite a bit of discussion in the first four meetings of the groups, we decided (this past Sunday) on baseball cards with archival photos on the front and info on the back.

Dennis: The curse continues? smile

I was surprised at how the groups responded to the idea of a raffle. Has anyone ever seen a lighthouse raffle with as much stuff? Even the CG is in on it. Huntington's offer of a private party for 20 at their offshore light stunned me.

The first running should be interesting. We've had great help from the NJLHS folks already, and expect the same from Chesapeake.

We're looking to have a bunch of special guests, at least one big announcement, and an optional cruise on the Saturday evening.

I would be grotesquely remiss if I did not mention how well ALL of these groups are working together, brainstorming, sharing information, and having fun! There are now even plans to have an annual get-together of all of the LI groups just for fun. This new-found cooperation is good for all of us.

The groups have elected me to represent them for the challenge, so it's probably best to direct any questions to me, and check my web site every so often as we work out details.

Hey Diane,

Do you think that the local Gestapo might permit a visit to the Coney Island light at this time? confused

Dan,

I highly doubt that access to Sea Gate will be allowed. There are things in the works regarding the Coney Island Light, but I wouldn't expect anything to be settled by May.

Yes, Yes, Yes, count Robert and me in. We have not been to these lights, and this will give us the opportunity to see them.

Joyce

I would like to see Coney Island included, but understand the circumstances. We may try to see it on our own.

Diane,

This can be the most difficult aspect of planning something like the challenge- how do you get the word out.

It's a hard thing to balance- too early and people forget about it and too late and people say I wish I knew about it sooner.

It's great to get some info out in the media now and then follow it up in 3 months and then 3 months.

It gets easier in some ways every year because you get the word of mouth of those who have participated in the Challenge.

It's great to get people talking about it at both the NJ and MD Challenges also- you get people who didn't know about the others.

I'm still working on Esther to celebrate her birthday on LI for the challenge. I'd have an easier time if it was my birthday, though.

Bob, since you brought it back up to the top, CCUSLHS is doing a notice in the next newsletter on the Long Island Challenge in May, and, this year is the first year for the "Triple Crown of Lighthouse Racing".

We also promoted it at Winter Lights this past weekend.

Great job on the brochure! Nice work, well thought out. Those who print it out should set their printers for legal size paper, landscape format.

I wanna go I wanna go I wanna go! But my dad has his stupid BMW Club thing, and I'm still trying to get my mom to stop making jokes about us from LHHC&Y 2004. I have to use some Super PPM for this one...

Thanks for the compliment on the brochure. I helped type the directions for it, so I know how much work it took to create it--in other words, A LOT! laugh laugh Bob did a nice job with it.
