A really nice story in the spirit of the Christmas Season. It's nice to know that the true meaning of the holiday still exists rather than the "Black Friday" chaos retailers cause which often leads to civil disobedience.

I just couldn't imagine lining up outside a retail store over night for something you can buy later anyways for roughly the same price. Then there are those who do it for resale on eBay.

I guess it all comes back to what your time is worth.

Ahh, Bob, its the thrill of the hunt for those super bargains Black Friday morning. Got most of what I wanted on the Staples web site later in the morning, didn't even have to schlep it home. Will be on my door step early in the week. Would have gotten a couple more things but they were buried on the web site and I didn't find them until they were sold out.

CDR Little, skipper of the Mackinaw sent a link to pictures of the trees being loaded onto the ship. The pictures are courtesy of radio station WATZ in Alpena.

And with the pictures you'll find a news article. I thought this was an interesting note...
Quote:
ROY BOUDREAU, COAST GUARD FLOTILLA 16-01 PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPOKESPERSON EXPLAINED THAT THE COAST GUARD COULD HAVE SIMPLY PLACED THE TREES ON CARGO NETS AND LOADED THEM ABOARD THE MACKINAW, BUT THAT WOULD NOT BE TRADITION... SO 1 THOUSAND 1 HUNDRED 18 BLUE SPRUCE AND SCOTCH PINES WERE LOADED BY HAND. (from the WATZ news archives)
