A great festival, great parade, great fireworks and great ships!! Oh, I forgot great food!!!! My favorite part is just sitting on the sea wall on fireworks day and watching the Coast Guard chasing down all the drunk or crazy boaters in the harbor and taking their boats when they leave them unattended to go get a beer at the local pub. There was even a huge boat full of scantly clad strippers advertising their club that brought a cheer from the hundreds of on-lookers stretched out on hundreds of blankets along the harbor. Last year there was a nice showdown between a 40'CG boat and a large cruizer who thought the rules were for everyone else. Guess who won a fabulous boarding party and a free cruise to the CG station?? Then there's always the guys who wait till dark and then try to swim across the channel to get more beer only to find out that the CG has night vision. More free cruises to the station. It's a real HOOT seeing what the boat people will try next.

I know the Mackinaw will be there. When I asked if the new Mackinaw would also attend, I was told no but they are good at surprizes. The new Mac starts sea trials in Aug. just in time for a quick stop in Grand Haven to be shown off in front of a large crowd. I hope, I hope, I hope!!

Coast Guard Festival
