This past weekend at Chicamacomico LSS on the Outer Banks, the USCG from Station Oregon Inlet and Station Hatteras performed demonstrations.

This was a demo of a rescue at sea...just off the coast.

The USCG boat has set off a smoke bomb to give the helicoptor crew the location of the victim in the water...

Successfully plucking the victim out of the sea to the helicoptor

Bringing the rescued victim back to shore

And a final flyby for the applauding audience on the beach. smile

Cool pictures, thanks for sharing. Did they use a coastie for the rescue or did they ask for volunteers?

A Coastie portrayed the victim.

He was first dropped into the water as a rescuer (my camera didn't capture him going in), and then they turned the tables so to speak, and he became the rescuee.

There was an article in the paper today about a drill that the Coast Guard did with all the different planes that they have (6 different ones) to see how effective their radar etc would be at picking up a life raft and also a person. Maybe this was part of that??

No, this demonstration was done specifically for the Chicamacomico LSS for it's "American Heroes" Day,
Sept. 9.
