I would like to have a little Wacko census with two-fold purpose--to find out about the demographics of the forums, and possibly to send to HL as a demographic of their collectors, seeing as we represent some of the most dedicated and ravenous HL collectors anywhere. There are 19 questions.

Hey Greg -- that's a pretty professional poll you put together (and I'm in the polling business).

Only points of criticism -- you have categories that go beyond the number of GLOWs, ABs and Sky-Bound Balloons. And I think the Forums go back to 1997.

But, all in all, well thought-out.

Like many of you folks, I have a lot of doubles, triples, etc of the same piece. Therefore, when I replied to the questions in the poll, I included the approximate number of HL's I have in my possession. So the numbers listed in the choices could be well beyond the actual number of individual lights offered by Harbour Lights.

Nice job on the poll, Greg!

Confirms that there are more men interested in lighthouses than women--anyone want to venture a guess as to why that is? Wonder what the poll would reveal if "Who cleans your displays?" were one of the questions. smile smile

I clean my own displays, Sandy! Lorna prefers not to handle the HL's. I guess she's afraid she might nick one or something. I'm always super careful when handling my HL's I always make sure I wash my hands thoroughly and dry them well before I start picking up the pieces, so to speak.

INteresting poll, Greg. Apparently no one else noticed that you have two Midwests listed under "where do you live". . . .

Wow, this is coming good. A great demographic of collectors. I think I set it to run one month.

As for the region question...I got smart. I used the Fish and Wildlife Service regions. No arguments like last time. I had to make some modifications, minor ones, and somehow titled the two regions the same. Oh well.

I was wondering if there was any way we could get these results when the poll ends to HL. This is exactly what they could use to improve on their products and marketing.

If 200 people can vote in this, it would be great. That's a good number for a poll. Even more--even better!

Keep voting!!!!! laugh

Sorry, Greg. Bob M is right. Many people have duplicates.

However I did notice one other deficit in your categories. You include "0" in with "0-10" in the number of various items. "0" is a LOT different that "1" or "1-10". Should have been a separate categy Or it is already covered in "I don't collect any..."

But still a very good poll.

I noticed that, too John. After I posted it, of course. If you do not have any of the piece, do the "I don't collect". I should have made the 0s 1s. frown

Did mine! smile

Marblehead, Mass. Lighthouse, you will always have a very special place in our hearts. ....We've made the journey as far south as New Jersey, as far north as Canada. Over 100 lighthouses visited.... and so many more to go.

These results are VERY interesting. A few pulls:

66% (41) of us are male, 34% (21) are female.
There are more of us in our 50s (44%/27) than any other age group.

39% (24) of us live in the northeast.

Few of us collect Skybound, but many (24%/15) have 201+ LE.

This is going to be very interesting to see the results of. Does anyone know if Y&A might be interested in this information, and if so, how I could get it to them when complete?

I think one of the most interesting results is the one that currently shows us as 82% Married and only 8% divorced.

That puts us way out of the norm for the general public. We could clean up by writing a how to book if we knew why that was. smile

What do you consider Christmas ornaments, as LEs or as 'Other Lines'?

I think a lot of you people need to see way more real lighthouses. I tried to drag the curve up, but there are too many of you below 100! Must be the children. smile
