Are the Harbour Lights Christmas Ornaments (HLCO) gone forever? It's hard to forget this once popular snow-covered, downsized version of the LE's. Did you look forward to purchasing the Collector's Society Ornament each year? How about the other four new HLCO releases each year?
Participate in the poll and reveal your thoughts about these once popular offerings from Harbour Lights.

Bob I have a large box of them. Probably 6 to 10 of each of the older ones pre-2000. I would trade for new ones but it seems most collectors are in the same boat as I. If HL wants to bring them back. This is how to do it.
Make all the new ones limited edition with a 1000 max and number them. Make them for Society members only and available for the first members that register until the 1000 runs out. I think they could even get $20 apiece if they limit edition them. Make one of them 500 to get the collectors blood going.
Bill said that when they first started Harbour lights in 1991 they wanted to make their first lights open edition but they knew they couldn’t sell them. I think that is true with the CO. There was so many of the early ornaments they became a giftware and not a collectable. We have to make the ornaments as limited that is what everyone else has done.

I think they could even get $20 apiece if they limit edition them. If they remained the same size as previous ornanments, I would not pay $20 for an ornament.

Christmas Ornaments were the first set of something HL that I could collect a complete set! I looked foward to them each year and the Society ornament that was more limited. HL stopped doing them because they were to expensive to do. That's what I was told by several HL people at the time. They obviously had to buy large volumes to get a cost benefit. They now (what's left of their inventory) have become the free gift from the new HL at all the regionals and gift for the Collectors Clubs instead of Little Lights. I'd like to see a return to a set each year and the society ornament. Bob

I currently don't collect them, but was thinking of starting. Maybe for 2007.

They were a nice idea for the 1st couple of years but after awhile you realize that most lighthouses, especially ones located in places where it doesn't snow in winter, aren't always aesthetically pleasing as ornaments...

I haven't collected them but I would like to now. I just got a set of small white Christmas (three and four feet tall). trees and I think they would look great on those. I didn't think about collecting them before because I thought they were too small for a large tree.

How many ornaments are there? Is there a list of them anywhere?

I love the ornaments. But I didn't know they existed when I started collecting Harbour Lights. Perhaps it was because I didn't join the society right away or because they weren't in the Lighthouse Depot Catalog??? Not sure. But once I discovered them, I started trying to find the older ones. I bought some on ebay and picked up some Oct 2005 in Florida that were in the gift shop at St. Augustine.

If the folks at Harbour Lights check out this poll, they will see there is still an interest in the Christmas ornaments. Who knows, maybe we'll see a resurection of the Christmas ornies in the future! Keep your fingers crossed... Bob
