I just bought an Admirality Head (misspelled) Malaysian #2470. The lightning rod (if there ever was one) and a small piece of the dome are missing. The dealer sold it to me for $40. Good deal or not? How much does the chipped dome impact on the value?

I'd say about $80 in your case. The Buyer determines the price.

How big is the missing piece? Is there a hole where the lightning rod should be? If so, Harbour Lights will send you a replacement rod.

It looks like a good third of the round ball is knocked off at a slant. It has been repainted all black, and it's hard to tell if there was a hole or not.

Dixie,
Perfect or not, if you just purchased the original HL from a dealer for $40 and you're happy, I'd say you got a heck of a deal! Congratulatons on your new addition.

"Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" but "an investment is in the eyes of the marketplace". If YOU enjoy it....thats all that counts, Dixie!!

I agree with the others, if your happy with it then you got a good deal. You may even be able to display it so that only you will know it's secret - then its that much better.

Dixie,
If you're happy, thats all that matters. I just found a Great Captain Island this weekend with a small nick in one of the eaves. The owner of the shop had found it in the attic after he bought the place, and felt bad about the nick. So he sold it to me for $43! The way I have it displayed, I will be the only one that knows. Congrats on your purchase, Dixie!
