I'm very curious as to how many of our members' states offer lighthouse license plates, and if so, do they take advantage of this offer. Quick survey...sure to be interesting results! smile

New York State used to have the Statue Of Liberty on our plates, but we don't anymore. However if you live in Suffolk County you get a plate with Montauk Point Lighthouse on it.

I have settled for the name "LIGHTKPR" on mine.

Yes Greg, but she turned her back on Jersey long ago, and gazes upon the Great City and State Of New York!

Yes I did and that is one thing that really annoys me about the Hudson River Lighthouse Coalition. Not only are they saying that The Statue of Liberty is in NY and one could possibly make a case for that but they are also claiming that it is also a Hudson River lighthouse. Try and figure that one out. Great Captains Island was also listed as a New York lighthouse for some time and it went back and forth but Connecticut finally won out. I guess that everyone wants to have a New York State lighthouse in their state. smile

Could just move the border bobo! wink

I take whatever letters and numbers I get assigned. We pay enough money to the Great State of New York without making additional donations!

Moving the border probably would be easier. And I feel the same as you, only about New Jersey. I miss Texas -- NO STATE INCOME TAX.

Bobo,
Maybe you've forgotten. We have no state income tax, but our property tax, homeowners and auto insurance and sales tax are way above the average. This year our property tax is just under 5% of the appraised value. Homeowners insurance has doubled in the past five years, for those lucky enought to find an insurance company willing to insure their home. When we moved from New Mexico to Texas our auto insurance doubled.
But, even with all that, it's still a great place to live. smile

Massachusetts offers the "Cape & the Islands" plate with a image of Nauset Light on the plate. I would love to have one but I'm not willing to turn in any of the three reserved plates I currently possess.

My Corvette has NORTH on the plate. I received this plate in 1966 and would not consider giving it up. Lorna's Jeep has 521 on the plate and that was the total humber of career home runs hit by Ted Williams and that plate was passed on to me by a good friend who is now deceased. My F-150 has R9M on the plate and if I ever decided to go back to just two vehicles, that is the plate that would be passed on to someone else. So I guess there will be no Cape & the Islands plate on my vehicles, well unless I decide to register a fourth vehicle...lol!

Would love to have Montauk on mine but it's a "no go" on an 7 letter vanity plate.

When I have a car, I'm going to try to get CGRT on one of those "Baymens Heritage" plates (only 4 characters). Wouldn't that be cool! laugh

I kinda agree with Mombo Cone(flower)head, which BTW, do you just like that flower or are you into herbs too? Okay, enough digression, I got the lighthouse plates which have a somewhat charachaturistic (sp - and probably not a word) drawing of the Assateague and Cape Henry lights. I don't pay to have someone run up my butt while trying to figure out my wittiness, but I do have to pay an extra $10/yr. that supposedly goes to the upkeep and restoration of these lights (and perhaps the others?).

Colorado's a little short on lighthouses but we do have lot's of mountains on our plates. Pikes Peak has a visitors center on top that faces east. There's a light over the front door that's visible, most ofter on clear winter nights, from down here in the Springs and further east. In fact, when it burns out people in town will notify the city (Pikes Peak is a city park) and the Forest Service will replace the bulb. The Peak is closed in the winter due to deep snow. I guess that's as close as we get to a lighthouse and since the mountain's on the plates, with a stretch, maybe we do have a lighthouse plate. wink wink

There is a Colorado Lighthouse. It is the Seroe Colorado Lighthouse. Only problem is that it is not in Colorado, but in Aruba. smile

Great search Mike,

But I hope Harbour Lights NEVER produces the Seroe Colorado Lighthouse.

Hi Just Plain Bob,

I light your idea of the lighthouse on Pikes Peak. We landlocked lighthouse lovers have got to have imaginations. Anyhow it's too bad the only light named "Colorado" has to be so ugly! I agree with Bob Ott and hope HL never makes that one!

Fortunately for all of us, that lighthouse was torn down at some point. Phew. wink

How the stats are coming:

QUESTION 1: Does your state offer LH plates? Considered any plate w/a LH, not necc. for LHs.

Yes 52% (13)
No 48% (12)

QUESTION 2: Do You Have A Lighthouse Licence Plate?

Yes! 28% (7)
No, although my state offers them 28% (7)
No, my state does not offer them 44% (11)

Something is a bit crazy, one person seems to be in a state that does not offer LH plates but does...or something to that effect...but overall, very interesting results! Keep the votes coming! laugh

Greg,

I was going to mention that discrepancy, but thought better of it. However, since you are the author of the topic, you have every right to do so. Glad you did.
