Day One:

No lighthouses but we get our Chloe fix when I went on line at our hotel and Chad had emailed Grandma and Grandpaul some new images..

Guess who is testing out standing...

Day Two:

First lighthouse of the trip, we revisited the Marinette (Menominee) North Pierhead Light..

It looked a lot different than when we were here after the launching of the new Mackinaw.. A lot less snow and ice..

A shot of some flowers for Mom and Mombo..

A reuben sandwich at the place where the WILD Club had lunch and a meeting after the launch..

Sue had the strawberry shortcake for lunch at the Schloegel's Bay View Restaurant..

A quick stop to photograph the former Cedar River Range Lighthouse without snow on the ground..

Then onward to the Sand Point Lighthouse in Escanaba..

The wind had picked up a lot as we arrived at the lighthouse and it had cooled off to the 60's.. It felt real good after a couple of weeks in the high eighties and low nineties..

A quick trip up the stairs to get a shot of the Fresnel then on to Marquette..

What a difference about 5 minutes makes... the foreground is the sunlight of this first image

and the lighthouse is in the sunlight in this second image.. Yes the famous Red Marquette Lighthouse appears as a Pink Lighthouse while under going restoration..

We had supper at a Grill that apparently someone was in a hurry to park..

One more flower shot just outside the Grill on our way to the hotel for the night..

Great photos! I think that I'm going to have to refrain from viewing reunion photos to avoid depression. frown

The pics of food are depressing me in another way. That sandwich on pumpernickle looks SO good....and I'm sitting here with my laptop in bed at 10:15 with no way to get one.

Keep 'em coming....though I may be viewing next month.

Chloe is such a cutie! How can you resist that smile.

It looks like you're having a good time.

I like the flower photos, too.

Day Three

The first stop on the way to Houghton, MI is the Presque Isle Harbor Breakwater which is at the North edge of Marquette..

This is what it looks like from shore without the telephoto lens..

Then a short 1/2 hour later and we are at Big Bay lighthouse..

This has to be one of my top five favorite lighthouses because of it's total layout plus the building..

A rose for Mom and Mombo...

A rose for the lighthouse!!

Looks like there is a plant trying to escape from the tower..

I guess that Bucky is the bathroom attendant..

A big reason I love driving in the U.P., NO Traffic!!!

I don't think I have ever seen this plant before.. I ran across it in the sand in front of the Sand Point (Baraga) Lighthouse..

Boy, I sure wish I could have gone on this trip...both of them, in fact...makes me drool! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your trip shots. I'll be unpacking boxes as we move into the new house this weekend!

Paul, that first yellow flower is a wildflower called Butter-and-eggs or Toadflax, belonging to the Snapdragon Family. The last yellow flower is another wildflower called Common Tansy. It's a member of the Daisy Family.

When I first moved here "out in the boonies" I picked up a neat book, Peterson's First Guide to Wildflowers for $4.95. Sadly I believe it's out of print and only the larger version available. I find that the little version is just great as all the flowers are arranged by color and the leaves are shown also, which makes for easy identification. Now I'm able to follow the growing season from beginning to end. I've already seen some goldenrod so that means we're coming near to the end of the season again. frown

Thanks for the flowers and the rest of your photos aren't half bad either! wink
