Not a lighthouse, but a lit cavern... I caught the light of the sun setting behind the rocks at Rockaway Oregon a couple of weeks ago. This is a shot I've been trying to get since 2000. I'm having these printed tomorrow night for, (hopefully), a gallery showing.

Great pics! You were certainly in the right place at the right time, Ned, and even the sunset cooperated.

Success, great patience paid off, Ned!

Ruthie, they usually have ocean's on the coast.. or did you mean where along the coast is Rockaway?.. It's just up the road from Tillamook!

David, Ned isn't new to the forums... he is a returning member. Ned used to be one of our main posters and it's good to have him back...

I would say that your long wait has paid you dividends! Great shots. Especially like the light coming through on the first one.

Thanks Paul for showing the map...and yes I knew it was on the coast :p I have been to the OR coast many times but I do not remember that rock formation.

Absolutely stunning, Ned! What a great capture of light and color. Thanks for the tip on another place to stop along the coast! It won't be sunset, but probably later afternoon, so perhaps I'll have some luck. smile Keep posting, I love to see your work!

Both absolutely beautiful pictures! I love the way the sunset rays come through the opening. Fantastic!

I'm not sure that this thread belongs here- it isn't about Lighthouses but I guess it's OK because it meets with the approval of some.

Maybe this should be closed also. laugh

wow! what a response! Thank you for the comments, and the warm welcomes. I'm right in the process of redoing my website to a cleaner, more streamlined format. I believe I deleted those three pages, but will have my best pics up on the new one. Here is what is done so far - with a few more of Heceta Head - New Page

Ned,

I meant to include this in my last post- the photos are extraordinary. It makes the viewer wish they were there right then.

Thanks for the link to your new site.. I really like the effect of the slower shutter speed on the ocean in some of the Heceta Head images.. Keep up the Great work!

Dennis, if anything, I would have moved it to the "Nothing to Do With Anything" category before I closed it. However, I've been allowing, and actually contributing, a post here and there that isn't "lighthouse photography" related as long as it's not abused. Also, knowing Ned from previous postings, and the fact that he is an avid lighthouse photographer, I was hoping he would share some more of his wonderful work, and it usually gets noticed here more than the other category. If anyone disagrees with my reasoning, please let me know. Thanks!
