It has been awhile since I'd shot the Ludington pierhead light at sunset, and we sure had a nice one tonight. In case anyone is wondering, the lighthouse settled when the concrete pier was redone a few years back so it does sit at a slight angle.

I love them, Jen! The sky is unique within the sunset lighthouse photos I have seen...I love the hue of orange. You got some great photos! smile

Sure, Jen, we believe you . . . . . . . .

Love the color. They are pretty intense, nicer than most sunsets I have seen lately. Did you use filters or are these "un-enhanced"?

No filters. However, they were shot with my professional lens (200mm 2.8 prime), the only one in my bag, and it has a very nice color rendition, better than the zoom I usually shoot with. These were shot from the little pier that juts out into the harbor that you can reach from the boat launch parking lot. The only thing I did, like I usually do in post processing, is my camera has a tendency to shoot dark, so I have to lighten up with levels in the mid-tone range and then I bump the saturation 15 points or so to compensate for the loss of color in lightening the image. The color was very intense and when my viewscreen popped up with the preview image after the shutter closed and the color was that intense I knew I had a good night. smile

PS Dave - September and October are notorious for the most colorful sunsets of the year, I think due to the lower humidity that summer doesn't have, the days are still nice in the 70s, and clearing at night without the marine layer from the Lake to interfere with the sunset. It went right down on the horizon. Fall is my favorite time of year to shoot and I will be out as much as possible the next 8 weeks or so. smile

I am always in awe of your photography Jen, you have such a gift. I was just at your website and was wondering home much you charge for an 8X10? Thanks for sharing your terrific pics. And..thanks for letting us know about the "leaning lighthouse" smile
