Sharon and I took a walk along bikepath in Riverside (East Providence) late yesterday and were greeted by a not too spectacular sunset. Just had to share the picture with you. It was VERY COLD! Bert

Bert,
I think its pretty good, too. I always liked this style lighthouse.
It does make one think it's warmer somewhere else.
Certainly not here.

Great pic, Bert! Timing is everything. My old yacht club is directly across the river and is hidden by the light. My new marina is just to your left facing the same direction as when you took your shot. My new camera has a specific setting for sunsets. One of these days just before dark, I should position myself for a nice sunset shot and see what happens. Bob

Nice shot, Bert! I'd say it was making me feel cold, but I don't think I can feel any colder today.

Greg, It's only 15 degrees in Central New Jersey. what if you lived in Minnesota? On Monday, the mercury in Minnesota flirted with the state's record low. The temperature dropped to 54 degrees below zero in Embarrass - not cold enough for a record, but cold enough to drive homeless people into shelters and cause hundreds of car batteries to fail. Now that's cold. bobo

It was down to 4 below last night here in Michigan and supposed to be below zero windchills with 30+ mph winds and 8 inches of snow predicted... GRRR... Nice shot, Bert! Love the color! At least you get to see the sun every once in awhile...been pretty dreary here...

That's a pretty picture!
Speaking of cold, yesterday I went up north to see the Great Gray Owls again. When I left, it was -36 degrees in Cotton, MN. I was in my car most of the time. It was probably -10 to -7 most of the time.
Thanks for sharing your photo.

Nice photo Bert! It seems that the light is on the steel tower next to the lighthouse. Any idea if there are plans to restore it to the lantern room?

Thanks for the great shot-Pomham is one of my favorites and often requested for new releases. By the way, Kailua-Kona temps-sunny 82 degree day with trades at 10-15mph , nightime a cool 71. It's my trade-off for NOOOO HL dealers in the state.

That's a nice photo Bert. I was down at St. Augustine the same day you took that shot. It was rather cold (in the 40's) and a little windy that day so I'm sure I would have been freezing in RI. It was warmer in Salt Lake than it was in Florida!

Nice photo. The Friends of Ponham Rocks has been recently formed and are attempting to raise money to help rehab the lighthouse. It is surprising since the lighthouse is actually owned by Exxon Mobil but the group is having a hard time getting funding from them. Exxon Mobil owns the deed and are required to maintain the lighthouse, but it has fallen into disrepair recently. They've agreed to lease the light out to a grooup that will attempt the renovations. FYI.

I would agree ...
... that Exxon-Mobil is taking an interest in the restoration sounds surprising but recent news items spoke of Kodak's assistance in Apostle Island lighthouse renovations ...
... and many of us are aware of Dow Chemical's help in the restoration of the Saginaw River Range light ...
... within bounds, what a great trend this could develop into.

Ah! When you have something as wonderful as "It's Only Money" you can get those beautiful pictures from the water. Great shot Bob. Say have we ever seen any pictures of "It's only Money"? I don't remember seeing any, but I do like the pictures you get from it. Bert

Read somewhere that ALF is now owner of Pomham Rocks and that Exxon even gave them $25,000 to start refurbishments. Anybody else see that?

Say have we ever seen any pictures of "It's only Money"? Harbour Lights was consider adding "It's Only Money" to their line of Anchor Bay boats, but we couldn't agree on where "Chipper the wonder dog", my 12 year old Jack Russell Terrier, would be placed on the boat. Only kidding!!! Bob

I think you're right, Sue. Nothing like returning from the beach and picking up a couple of four pounders or so, and consuming them at the back of the boat. We learned a long time ago that when you eat one of the big critters you are better off remaining in beach attire, and shower after the meal. No need for veggies with that meal. Just a fair sized portion of melted butter will do, and cocktails of course! Bob

". . .ExxonMobil has now leased the historic structure at no cost to the American Lighthouse Foundation. At a meeting in early 2005 in East Providence, a new chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, the Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse, was formed. At that meeting, Greg DeMarco, superintendent of ExxonMobil's East Providence terminal, presented $25,000 to the American Lighthouse Foundation toward the restoration of the lighthouse." Excerpted from ALF web site.
