Not surprisingly, I shot a LOT of slides last Thursday... Here are a couple of additional photos. There are also two links to an animated GIF sequence that was uploaded to my webhost.

Both of the animations are large file (>1 Mbyte) so give them time to load. They'll come up in a new window and will cycle in real time once they've completely downloaded.

Hope you enjoy these!

Gary

Outstanding photos Gary. It's hard to believe that the lighthouses and pier can withstanding that much battering from the waves and wind.

It sure is enjoyable looking at these pictures when I have been there in person and walked along that same pier.

Wow - loved the photos, loved the animations! Now we can really understand why the keepers needed those elevated catwalks to get out to the lights!

Very cool Gary! I loved the animated sequences too. Makes you feel right you are at the beach watching those huge sprays of water hitting the tower at the end of the pier. Did you get a chance to do South Haven, too?

I knew there would be someone to get those shots, I told everyone last week that I would LOVE to be in SW Michigan with all those winds. Thanks Gary and Jen for the great work!!

Thanks for the comments, all... I did go up to South Haven, Jen, but it was pretty much a bust. The waves were slamming into the north pier and the lighthouse wasn't getting much attention from the waves. The wave direction was the primary reason for my choice in going to St Joe rather than South Haven for this particular storm.

Hey Gary, that's too bad. I wish I lived closer to St. Joe but it's two hours for me one way. I lucked out with the Grand Haven pier seeing as much wave action as it did. The winds hadn't shifted yet as I was just ahead of that cold front so I did ok with the straight west wind.

There were some waves on the north pier light at GH that just crashed right over it with such height it took my breath away. I wanted to photograph it, but it took so much concentration being out there in the conditions I was in I said to myself, "Forget it. I will concentrate on the lighthouse.". smile

Neat photos, Gary! I love being at St. Joe when the sun is shining and the waves are crashing (unfortunately, it's not too terribly often...)!

Wow, really neat pictures. I hope someday I can master photography like you. I thought I took good picture, but I'm just a kid compared to these shots.
