Can someone please help me identify where these pictures were taken and some information about the lighthouses. My daughter took them, because I like lighthouse, when she rode with her husband when he was driving over the road. I know they made several deliveries around the Great Lakes, but she did not give me any information.

Could the first photo be Wawatam Lighthouse before they moved it to St Ignace?

Cindy & Pam,

The first one is most likely the lighthouses that are at many of the Michigan welcome centers along the interstate highways. I have a picture somewhere, just not having any luck finding it. The sign would seem to confirm this, as would what looks to be a pretty good sized parking lot.

Dave ,

Thats why I posted the link...it was at a welcome center

"Was originally at a welcome center along I-75 in Monroe Co. Was moved to St Ignace in 2004 when the state decided to remove the lighthouse for the welcome center."

Anyone else have any ideas?

Pam

Dave it right, it's one of the welcome center lighthouses. I don't know if every welcome center has one, but many of them do. That web page claiming the Monroe county one was moved is wrong... It's still there and on Michigans web page that's the only one with the lighthouse pictured although I have seen a number of them.

The welcome center just over the line from Indiana on I-94 has one. One of the folks on the Reunion bus trip last year should have a picture.

I do remember that she said one of them was at a Welcome Center. Does anyone have any idea what lighthouse the other one is?

Can't help you with the second picture, but can confirm that the first one is the St. Ignace Light--we took this picture on 8/12/06:

Sandy, If in fact the light now at St. Ignace came from a Michigan welcome center, the one in the picture could be from several of the welcome centers since they all used the same "lighthouse".

Here is a picture of the Monroe Welcome Center , entering Michigan on I-75 from Ohio.

Kept digging and found a picture of the welcome center at New Buffalo, where I-94 enters Michigan from Indiana....

Picture I posted is of light located in the City Marina, St. Ignace, MI. The September edition of Lighthouse Digest included the following in the Keeper's Korner section:

Quote:
St. Ignace Lighthouse Now Up And In Place

Crews have completed the installation of the new lighthouse at St. Ignace, Michigan, which will serve as a sentinel for the city’s marina. The city acquired the 52-foot facsimile from the State of Michigan’s Monroe Welcome Center to place it on the old Railroad Dock on the community’s waterfront. St. Ignace officials are to be congratulated for realizing the importance of lighthouses for tourism.
Don't recall where I got the coordinates from, but they obviously got us to that light. How many similar ones are there?

Sandy
