The second day of the Chesapeake Chapter bus trip to Maine involved a change of plans. The boat company failed to launch a large enough boat for everyone for a proposed five lighthouse cruise out of Bar Harbor, Maine.

Instead we took the ferry from Bass Harbor to go to Swan Island to visit Burnt Coat lighthouse.

View of the lighthouse from the road as you approach.

Better view once you are parked.

The oilhouse.

The fog signal building.

View from the lantern room. The Friends of Burnt Coat lighthouse are trying to mothball the building to prevent further deterioration, until they can raise funds for further restoration efforts.

Continued in Day 2, Part 2.

Does look like a grey and gloomy day. I enjoyed the photo of the fog signal building!

I agree, Margret. Too many wonderful lighthouse complexes becoming "lost AND forgotten."
